Hi All,
We are just looking for a bit of advise in planning our summer road trip.
Our plan is to head from Roscoff down to Barcelona, stopping in the Dordogne on the way down.
We are planning on winging it a bit, and wildcamp or pitch up without booking if possible.
My first question is, do you think this would be possible in August?
Second question is, are there any laws or obstacles I need to think about while wildcamping. We have a Transporter, and are self sufficient for the odd night stop, but plan to use campsites once we actually reach an area we like.
Third question is, where is nice, quiet, and pretty, around Barcelona. I've seen the bay of roses, which looks nice, but is it?
Looking forward to any advise you can give, and happy to elaborate futher if you need more info in order to help.

The Bay of Roses is lovely, as is most of the Costa Brava down as far as Lloret (actually much better than it was at one time).
You can use Aires in France, or park up in supermarket car parks, or almost anywhere where there isn't a 'No camping cars' sign. However, you do run the risk of being moved on.
Many French towns and even some villages have a municipal site - and some of these can be very cheap (though some can cost as much as a commercial site).
Your only problem is the 'August' bit - early August is peak time in France, and of course there is more pressure on space - even for wild camping! You can generally find a pitch pretty much anywhere inland in France, if you're equipped with good information, so get a guide which contains all French campsites such as Le Guide Officiel Camping Caravanning (from Amazon or similar) and this has all sites listed.
In Spain it may be more difficult. Some areas in Spain are trying to discourage wild camping, and sites may be booked, especially if you're trying to get near to a beach. However, as we go to Spain in either early or late season I'll leave a more comprehensive answer to people who've visited in peak season.
