In 2015 we were lucky to have one of the largest pitches at la ferme du latois in the vendee. It was at least 200 sq meters. We have different plans for this summer, but I've started reading up so I'm ready to book as soon as I can for 2017.    Interested in maybe further down the west coast, or dordogne or Loire but don't want to be disappointed in our pitch and comparing it to last years. Any suggestions, not bothered about entertainment at all but kids would like a pool with water slides if possible. Like to be near a village etc for shopping but don't mind this being a short drive or bike ride.
Thank you!

Most French sites won't even consider taking bookings for next summer until the end of this year. Some will take a provisional one, but the bigger sites don't struggle to fill pitches in peak season, and won't take bookings until they've set next years tariffs.
Gives you time to focus your search a little, although in popular locations, a 200m2 plus pitch will be hard to find, and no doubt pricey!

Since you are considering Loire then you could look at Ferme de Prunay. My pitch was probably about 300sqm. I loved the privacy provided by mature trees but they also have open space pitches if that is your preference. See the image in my gallery - it does not show the whole pitch though.

The norm in France is usually around 100 sq m. However, this will depend on the layout of the site and often bigger pitches are available. It is rare to find smaller and, if there are, they are often designated for tents. 100 sq m is quite a decent size, you will find, and larger than the norm in Italy, for example.

I do like to be organised! And definitely want bigger than 100 sq m. I think the problem is if I can't find what I want we will go back to la ferme de latois, and I'll be able to book that a year in advance to get the pitch I want. So might seem crazy but might as well start reading up now. The one in the Loire looks ok, but unheated pool and no slide won't keep the kids happy. - but that's the kind of pitch we are after!

The biggest pitches we have ever had were at Domaine de la Breche near Saumur in the Loire. Definitely worth a look.

Very large pitches at Camping Floiras Base Nautique, on the Lot ... see my review.
Also ... this site is beautifully presented and has very large pitches. See review.

This post makes me smile. Our first trip to France took us to Ferme du Latois and we were blown away by the size of the pitch. Our search for campsites now has to include a good sized pitch but we've never found one quite so massive! Les 4 Vents near Paris was probably the nearest in size (but still a way off!). I would love to go back to Ferme du Latois but our holiday there was just so much better than any of us were expecting - four years later and it was still our best holiday in France. I just worry that returning might make it lose it's sparkle.

No help to the OP at all but you've brought back some great memories! Thank you.

A few here for me to have a look at - dont want to travel too far though - Brittany ferries club members so will stick to their routes. Lattytatty, you understand my problem! Family will be really disappointed after the fab holiday last year if I don't come up with something as good - so may just give in and go back, still loads we didnt do in the area, and lots we wouldn't mind repeating. May be time you went back too! There's a lovely new little bistro in Coex!

I love a large pitch. I don't need a field or total privacy as I also love to watch people come and go. So far, until this year I have never revisited the same site. I just make sure its what I ask for or if I go via Eurocamp independent that they also ask too. We do have a large van so pitch size is important, but I like enough room for my awning and then a breathable groundsheet, to place my table, chairs, hammock and rotary washing line on and if the pitch is south facing all the better - I love afternoon reading in the sun on my pitch so why shouldn't I want the space to do that. I have never been disappointed yet, and we have been going for 8 years now. This year is the first time we return to the same site and the pitch allocated at Les Sablons worries my slightly as there aren't many large pitches there and they couldn't give me the same pitch that I had last year despite me booking in September and requesting it grr, but I know that they have done their best. So far I have never paid extra for a large pitch but I probably would as it is my number one priority at a site.
