And you do, REALLY, need to have your documentation with you at all times. I`ve been spot-checked more than once....the polis have documentation checking traps set up.

And French drivers drive much closer to each other than is normal here. Right up your exhast pipe, almost. You get used to it though...then when you come home you have to get out of the same habit yourself, I find!

Headlamp converters are compulsory. Without sounding stupid what are they and where do you get them from?

Headlamp converters are sticky things that you put on your headlamps. Because we drive on the wrong side compared to France, our headlamps point at a bad angle towards the oncoming driver and it can dazzle them. So the convertor blanks out a thin slice of the headlamp beam. Sometimes known as beam-benders.

You can get them in Halfords etc, though some folk just use a strip of black tape. Better with the kit, which has instructions as to how to position them properly. You`ll see folk putting them on in the boring queue for the ferry. Make sure you have something with you to clean and degrease the headlamp. We use cheap, nasty, alcohol-filled babywipes.
