We usually cross Portsmouth Caen in May (low season) and overnight at Le Pomieres and there's always pitches available. This year we're crossing in late July (high season ) will we need to book this campsite?

Under new ownership and not yet re opened for the season so none of know how it will have changed. If your ferry is booked for a firm date you might as well book the site as well. Its new name - Seasonova Riva Bella - will give you the e mail address to do that.
Berriow, I've looked at the website and there's a recent review, but it's in French, I'm busy trying to translate, but I ain't that good? It mentions migrants? But that could refer to other travellers? Got me worried though. I understand that there's another site not that far away but don't know whether they stay open for the late ferries, any advice?
I have had no problems there in recent years - the addition of a security barrier and a night patrol man prevented any problems, but as I said before, there is a change to commercial ownership and that is likely to mean that visitors this year will find even more investment and improvement. Tell us how you get on.
We've stayed several times in recent years and never had any problems, even when the site was really busy the 14th July weekend a couple of years ago. Much prefer this site to Les Hautes Coutures, if that's the alternative you're considering.

Yes I agree, we prefer this site and have used it several times during the past few years, but not in high season and don't want to use any other. We're not going to France until late July so we ve got plenty of time to make a decision. Probably wait now and ask the same question again in a couple of months time. Thanks for the posts.

Just put your cursor on the text in French, right-click, and then select "translate into English".

Possibly Les Capucines in Ranville.. We have stayed there several times on outward and home bound winter trips to Spain. They are open for late evening Portsmouth/Caen ferries
------------- Mother Nature always wins in the end.
We have just stayed overnight on Les Hautes Couture this is a fantastic site in comparison to Les Pomiers.
It has a barrier with a code to you can get out early for the morning crossing and the office is open until 7 pm
Fantastic cycle/walking path at the side of the canal and they accept dogs
