Hi folks, I am trying to source a stop over point between SPA, Belgium and Lake Garda (Malcesine to be precise).

Now that we have the first few days sorted i.e. SPA F! Grande Prix, we will need somewhere to stop on the way to Lake Garda. There just happens to be a huge mountain range which is between us and our destination, so looking at the map I chose LINDAU as an option. THis route would bring us down the north eastern side of lake Garda which may be perfect.

Whilst checking out LINDAU, I notice that David Klyne's name appears in a blog/ review, and I'm wondering of it is one and the same person who commented on the Venice leg of our trip. The consideration is to stay 'Lindau Am See campsite.'

Let me know if you have travelled this route and think it's a viable option.

I did that trip in reverse many years ago, and we stayed at Lindau after crossing the Brenner Pass. The previous night we spent in a layby north of Trento. Very scenic run, rather a long day I seem to remember. We couldn't stop in Austria, as it was pre Euro, and I already had French, Italian and German currency.

Well, one element of our trip is to see Liechenstein, simply because I have never been and Robert worked at Swarovski on their IT system, and I would love to visit some of the places I have heard so much about.

LINDAU is only 4hrs from Lake Garda, so it's perfect timing to enjoy the scenery and be on fast roads.

Hi BobCat10,

We travelled from Spa F1GP to Lake Iseo three years ago. We stopped over in Halbmeil in the Baden Wurtemburg region of Germany, then drove down the side of the Bodensee, through Austria and Liechtenstein and past the Morteratsch Glacier in Switzerland. We dropped down the Julier Pass to St Moritz and then the Bernina Pass and stopped over in La Prese. We finally arrived at Lake Iseo. What an amazing journey!

Since then we've been to Monza F1GP twice and stayed on Lake Maggiore and Lake Lugano. This year it's Monza and Lugano again.

Happy travels!

Wow that sound wonderful.

However the main part of the trip is NOT the F1 (it my be for my OH. THe stop over is just that, a place to stop to break up the journey. My main aim is to get to Italy and settled in some remote village above lake Garda. I am looking forward to OPERA in VERONA and revisiting VENICE.

I am ashamed to say that this is our first proper camping trip to Italy. Being of Italian parentage, and at that northern, you'd think I'd have done this years ago. The only trips I have done to Italy have been Skiing in the Dolomites, visiting the Ligurian riviera from Menton, ROME and most recently VENICE and FLORENCE.
So camping in Italy may be a culture shock. I am hoping that camping in Italy is similar to FRANCE with numbered pitches etc.

I'm going to see if we can get a 'Chambre D'hote' as a stop over in LINDAU, as this means less hassle and we can hit he road early and see them there mountains      .

We booked the ferry last night £735 Hull- Zeebrugge....and there are adults and a car. So I can't imagine how much it would be for people towing something or a motorhome. Molto Costoso!

Hi BobCat10, could I just mention that the Italian F1 Grand Prix is on the weekend following the Belgian GP so you may want to consider a trip to Monza which is not a million miles away from Lake Garda!! Like I say, just saying....
