Another vote for going with the flow. Also agree with previous advice that, if you can go at any time, then avoid the last week or so in July and first couple of weeks in August. Weather is of course unpredictable anyway and you can have lots of rain in July as well as in May or September, but the end of June/beginning of July can be really nice. It won't be as busy as it would be a month later. Sites won't be booked up and you'll have the advantage, if going without booking, of being able to change plans if need be due to weather being better elsewhere.

Grahame, while you are in the area have a look at Camping Beausoleil in La Palmyre village and see what you think of it - well away from Luna Park noise and close to shops and beach , though perhaps too small a site for some people who want more things happening on the campsite.

Thanks... we have looked in the past but our boys didn't fancy it but maybe worth a walk round this summer and note it for next year May-time or summer. I'm expecting La Palombiere to be very good, hope I'm not disappointed!!

We are still looking to go the last 2 weeks in august ... Just going book ferry and head down to les mathes , we just bought a newer van a bailey sancerre for our trip so looking forward to it ... One thing concerns me at the moment with all these migrants around Calais damaging lorry's throwing stuff at them , has anyone had trouble with them whilst returning to the port as never heard anyone mention it apart from lorry drivers

They aren't a problem, and this is old news now! There are new higher fences all the way into the port, and you no longer see the gangs of youths along the autoroute.

Fill up with fuel well before Calais, and head straight into the port without stopping.

Hopefully, floods permitting, we should be in Calais later this afternoon, and I'll report on the situation was we find it today.
