Planning on camping at Camping Jungfrau in Lautaubrunnen first week of July. Looking for suggested routes from Calais and stopovers- need a cheap hotel or ready tent up. 2 Adults and 2 teenagers

I did Calais to Interlaken a few years ago, and followed advice to travel to Lille then through Belgium to Luxembourg, back into France at Metz then into Germany briefly before Basel and finally into Switzerland.Tthe reasoning is that there a no tolls, its quite quick (but not as wuick as through France), its a tried and trusted truckers route and you can get very cheap petrol in Luxembourg. This is all true.

However I found that the experience of driving on Belgian motorways shortened my life expectation by a considerable number of years, and on the way home we took the more expensive, but much more pleasant route through the Jura in France - past Besancon, Troyes and Reims. It helped my sanity no end. There is a slightly longer, but slightly quicker French route through the Vosges past Strasbourg and Metz too.

Up to you which benefit you want to take. For what it's worth, if I was doing it again I'd go via the Jura.

Also, dont forget your motorway vignette for Switzerland, you can buy one online from the Swiss tourist office in the UK before you go.

As for overnights, Formule 1 or (our preferred) B&B hotel chains are very convenient, they both tend to be close to motorways and in the retail parks on the edge of towns. Again you can book online or pick up a map/brochure when you get there. We stayed in the B&B in Metz on the way down and the B&B in Saint-Quentin on the way home, but it will obviously depend on your ferry timings where you stop.

Should have added, Formule 1, while cheaper, has a max of 3 to a room while B&B have family rooms for 4.

It depends on your crossing time. The first time we went via Reims and stayed just off the motorway at a premier class place which was very cheap about 35 euro a night but was used by a lot of tradesmen, we then did Interlaken in 1 hit the next day via Strasburg and Basel. Its lovely at Lauterbrunnen. My top tip is to pay for a train pass for a few days or a week,on the pricey side but worth it as you can travel all over the Jungfrau with it, individual rail journeys and cable cars will cost the earth. Murren is good, also a trip to First, Grindelwald and Wengen. The last bit up to The top of europe costs about an extra 40 euros, go on a clear day. J x

Agree with that, 2 rail passes includes (or certainly used to anyway) a free child with an adult, so all 4 can travel on 2 adult passes. Our car moved once in 2 weeks, all other trips were by bus and train.

We arrive at Camping Jungfrau 3 July with our caravan but will have spent a little time at Luxembourg and Colmar on the way. I'll watch out for a camping Brit.

Last year we never made it - the car broke down in France! Plan on going about July 12th - have you booked?

We've booked 3 - 10th. Booked over the phone and they don't take a deposit. It's dear though - over £35 a night! That's Switzerland for you.

Switzerland is expensive .... but worth it to see at least once. The pound has being going downhill against the Swiss franc for years http://www.xe.com/currencycharts/?from=GBP&to=CHF&view=10Y which doesn't help.

Lauterbrunnen is only 15 mins by train from Interlaken, as said above the rail passes are extremely good value, especially as there are a lot of places that you can't actually drive to so will need to take the train. One other tip, if you're feeling the pinch, is to dine in the Co-op supermarket restaurant in the middle of Interlaken (a few yards from the Interlaken Ost station).
