Has anyone any experienced of the several campsites surrounding the city of Konstanz? There seem to be plenty of them but reviews are mixed, a little first hand experience would be good.

We are staying there for 6 nights in July.

Thanks.

Paul & Julie, we are heading to Lake Konstanz, Lindau to be precise, but it will be a stop over for our destination at the head of Lake Garda.
We haven't yet decided whether we'll pitch or cheat and stay in a small hotel.

Not far away now...well a few months but these fly by.

We stayed at Campingplatz Hegne a couple of years ago. All the facilities were brand new and spotless (so new they still aren't shown on Google Earth). The Restaurant was excellent for both quality and value, and the staff welcoming and helpful. Cars must be parked outside the gate.
Most pitches are fairly small and close together, but we've experienced that in lots of campsites in Germany and Italy. Many of the campers are long-termers there for the summer.
The site is within cycling distance of Konstanz along a cycle path, but the reply to our question of "How far is it?" was "You do not have to cycle. Here are the train tickets." A smashing idea used all over Germany in tourist areas.
We liked Konstanz; there are lots of restaurants, some good shops large (C&A for example) and small, an attractive town centre and an interesting harbour.
I think I would advise booking on any site in the area; they have all been quite full every time we've been anywhere near.

We are currently on Hegne.
We have looked at 3 other sites and I will review them on here but have to come into Konstanz to MacDonald s for wifi so will give you a short summary.

Nearest and the best site to Konstanz is Fischerhaus at Kreuzlingen on the swiss side but only about 1m to walk or cycle. Has nice flat grassy pitches, superb sanitaires, right on the lake, nice restaurant but its the most expensive. Has wifi and pool and hookup, water and drain on each pitch.

Hegne has superb sanitaires, cramped pitches on rough ground, tents just on a bit of grass near lake, no wifi at all. Lovely staff in bar and reception. About 2/3rds seasonal pitches. Its about 7 miles to Konstanz, about 40 mins on bike or train about 10 mins. Campsite give a free train pass.

William at Allenbach is a very nice site, in a village so has shops and restaurants, site by lake, 2km further down tgan Hegne. Looks nice but longer to cycle into town but has a train station so good if site give free train pass.

If you want to know anything else let me know. I will try answer when I get wifi. Leaving here on Tuesday. J x

Thanks paul+julie,

Great info. We felt under a bit of pressure to book as time was going on and we've gone for Allensbach - it was between this , Hegne or Willam. I would like to be on that side for when we leave we are off past Ulm to Stuttgart way.

Enjoy your travels.

We are currently at Camping Salem an ACSI CC site. It is quite crowded in the hedged area but we are in the open area at the end of the site and have plenty of room.

Showers and Toilets are good, modern and spotlessly clean. 3 other Brits here besides us and lots of Dutch. Most Brits we have seen since 19 th April.

We looked at William yesterday, its between Allensbach and Markelfingen so you need to cycle to the train at Allenbach about 2km. Pitches same as Hegne a bit rough in places but nice view over lake. There is a good site in Allensbach itself CampingAmsee, we are going back to the german side to this site after our 6 days here at Fischerhaus on the swiss side.
diphil, we arrived at Salem on your recommendation last Friday at 12.15 only to find it closed until 3pm and not a soul in sight, looks a nice quiet site and good being Acsi but just did not want to sit around for 3 hours so moved to Hegne where we spent 4 nights. So, apart from the weather last week we have really enjoyed our German adventure so far and have had some lovely bike rides. 3 more weeks to go and hoping the sun is here to stay.
Hope you all enjoy your hols. J x
