We are travelling to Interlaken from Luxembourg with our tourer. Has anyone any tips/suggestions/recommendations (I know about the vignettes!) as to route. They would be very welcome.

When we did it solo also a few years back we left the A4 a bit after Metz and avoided Strasburg (and saving a little on tolls) by cutting across through Saverne and Molsheim rejoining the main route at Obernai.
It was also worth cutting over the Rhine near Mulhouse into Germany and entering Basle from the autobahn that side of the river as it avoids having to use any city streets (straightforward enough but sometimes slow going) when heading to Bern.
And I just took the direct route - ruler on the map ! Toll free motorway via Metz, Nancy, Epinal, and Remiremont , and from there the N66 continues over the Vosges to Mulhouse. Then as Boxman says, cross into Germany there and use their autobahn for the last stretch to the Swiss border.
