Please,I need your help...again.
We have just bought a Maxview Omnisat 54 Kit secondhand..

Firstly, we thought we were buying a 60 cm kit. Didn't notice until we arrived home.
Now..questions having never used one before.
It has a Satellite Finder/Receiver with it Comag SL39/12. We have an Avtex TV with a built in decoder. How does this work with the kit we have bought? Do we need this Comag receiver as we have a Maxview Satfinder besides? Is the built in TV decoder something else?
Will the 54 dish work in Northern France(Caen going north)?
Sorry to ask so many questions.

Yep, 54cm Dish will be fine at Caen, providing your Avtex TV has an embedded satellite tuner, then you will not need the Comag, although the Comag is a brilliant FTA satellite reciever.

If your new to setting up a satellite dish up, then practice at home first, and ensure all is working fine before you go to France.

The meter will be handy, although some Avtex TV's with satellite built in, are compatible with EasyFind LNB's worth exploring that.

Also get yourself a digital angle finder, this will take the guess work out of setting the elevation for the Dish.

No problem, we carry a spare LNB, as they can and do fail, Invacom and Inverto are good makes, and are not expensive.

I even have a Lidl LNB, £5 at the time, quite the bargain and decent spec.

My OH had played with it this afternoon and given up. TBH we have no idea what we are doing.
Its now gone back in the bag. One last question Francis ....Can the lead be plugged straight into the Avtex TV and leave the receiver out.
On Setup on the Avtex it can find satellites but it keeps saying no signal.
Wish we could afford another Snipe.Press a button and its all done for you.

Some Avtex TV's are equipped to work with EasyFind LNB's, so it could be worth finding out if yours is one of those models.

Assuming that your Avtex TV does indeed have a satellite tuner, yes you can connect the dish directly to the TV, using the "F" Female socket on the TV.

Get the dish out of the bag, and keep trying, when you have found the satellite, place a digital Angle Finder onto the LNB arm, make a note of the reading, as the will become a reference for future use.

Good luck, and keep us posted.

Thanks Francis.I'm a bit more technical than my OH so I will give it a try tomorrow. I'll ring Avtex in the morning and ask them. The TV is about three years old and has the built in tuner. It worked fine with the Snipe system which is just a satellite receiver so it should work with the Maxview.

Yep, that confirms that your Avtex has a satellite tuner, whether it is EasyFind LNB compatible you can ask Avtex about that.

In anycase if the Avtex can work with an EasyFind LNB, you will of course have to get one for your Dish.

In the meantime, keep trying with the Dish, once you have set it up a couple of times, you will find it much easier to do when you get to France.

I use a SatLink 6906 meter, great bit of kit, being self powered and has a 3" TV screen, making it very easy to confirm that you have located the correct satellite.

I purchased a maxview satellite system some time back and not used it because became a pain to try and set up.
I would like to try again but think the decoder /receiver is out of date or obsolete.
Can I buy new receiver and would I have to change the LNB on the dish

Francais has not been heard from for a long time Mario, but there is a site in Staffordshire called Horton Common, the owner has some good info on satellite systems so you could look it up/contact him.
