Vimoutiers municipal might suit you, 1 hour from Caen (though not on the most direct road to Le Mans if that matters), It says they close at 1930, but there's a phone number you can try to see if they allow late arrivals.

The other possibilities are the Formule 1 hotels in North Caen, East Caen, Alencon. Also the B&B hotels in more or less the same locations - North Caen, South Caen and Alencon
They both usually allow late arrivals by keypad entry, though you dont say if you're touring or not, if you are it might be more awkward getting car park space or you might not want to leave it outside overnight.

Depending on your route and travelling distances, the site at Loubeyrat near Riom in the Auvergne, just off the A71 is nice, cheap and has a very good auberge opposite selling hearty country food.
