Almost all sites are good, we rarely find a bad one , so decide which parts of the Loire valley you want to visit . You won't see it all as it's 500 miles long but with your motorhome you can hop from one location to another and be sure of finding decent sites everywhere - and motorhome Aires too. The choice is absolutely endless . I hope you have a good time.

Camping de Nevers is a good site, right on the banks of the Loire. They don't do food at the site but just stroll across the bridge and you're in Nevers with lots of places to eat and shop.
Camping les Nobis dAnjou at Montreuil-Bellay is a really nice site, close th the town and they've got a good cafe-bar popular with locals as well as campers.
Both sites are cheap out of high season with an ACSI card.
But really France is full of great inexpensive campsites, and in a motorhome you can take your pick.
Bon vacances!

One of my favourites, we stop here every year CAMPING L'ĪLE D'OFFARD, saumur, 5 min cycle to town or 10 min walk, campsite on an island , fab market on Saturday.

We also love Amboise ,the campsite is a municipal Camping Municipal De L Ile D Or so more basic, you can use the pool next door. Again really handy for the lovely village.

Both places have loads of shops and places to eat.

The Loire is one of my favourite places. You have a motorhome (same as us) so just move around a few campsites.

When are you heading off? If it's in mid July to mid-August you'll find sites are busier than at any other time, and if you want a popular location (by the beach for instance) it might be an idea to ring in advance. However, with a motorhome you have the advantage of being able to use Aires de Service Camping Car (get a book All the Aires or just google 'Aire de Service Camping Car' then the name of the town). If you're going outside that period then it may pay you to get an ACSI Card - a way of obtaining a discount on site fees on sites accepting the card (about 1600 in France). There are sites from just 11 euros per night - see www.campingcard.co.uk for details.

I agree, camping la Sabot is a great little campsite, you can see the Chateau from here and its a easy walk into the village, 10min max.

For a first timer in the Loire both Azay and Ile D'Or at Amboise would make good bases. Worth trying them both - Azay gives good access to west of Tours - eg Chinon, Villandry - Amboise gives good access to east of Tours eg Chenonceau, Chaumont.

Another vote for CAMPING L'ĪLE D'OFFARD. From there it's a 5 minute amble aong the river bank, over the bridge into Samour centre with its quiant streets and many many bars and restaurants
