Hi

Does anyone know of a cheapish way to prepay Internet use for an iPad that doesn't have Internet? I am in the dog house. We have booked a campsite without free wifi and the reviews I have read are that even if you pay for wifi from the campsite, it isn't very reliable. Kids aren't happy especially as they want to be able to chat to boyfriends. Can I buy a dongle to plug in either here or in France for a decent price?
Thanks

There is a very recent thread on the same topic here.

Which site are you at? Someone may have recent experience of internet use, because I've certainly found it varies, and on sites with supposedly poor reception we've been able to get it on our pitch?

Otherwise, a daily trip (time limited) to McDonalds???

If you mean pre paid wifi you have Orange here. You pay online by card on your tablet for access & instructions are in English. For it to work you need a good signal from an Orange hot spot. I think it works like BT pre paid wifi. Phone subscriber's wifi is utilised as prepaid wifi for the paying public.

You can check first if you have a good Orange wifi signal at campsite before you buy access. If you use a dongle then you rely on a good phone signal at campsite so either alternative could be equally good or bad.

I would try the paid for campsite wifi first though. Free campsite wifi is often dodgy but ime paid for wifi often through Osmosis wifi works quite well. The link contains French campsites so see if yours is included.

I would strongly recommend Three. We used our Mifi in France recently and had no issues with speed or connection on the 3 stes we used. We bought the Mifi a while back and now just top it up with a 12GB card which lasts 12 months. So during the months November to March it seels hardly any use, but then in the other months I can use up 2 - 3 Gb a month without any issue. I have never exceeded the limit but then I do not downlaod movies and give Youtube a miss.
