We are going to Mondial campsite in Vallon and I was wondering if anyone has stayed on a comfort pitch and is able to give me some idea on the pitch size. We have a Coleman event shelter and just deciding if it's worth taking or not .

If you've booked already I would ask the site exactly which pitch you're on. French site pitch sizes tend to vary a lot, even amongst the same 'category' so a Grand Comfort pitch may not always been the same size or shape.

I'd second emailing the campsite. Claudine at the site has sent us a map and list of measurements of pitches before and is very helpful. Some of the pitches have trees in the middle of them though! We will be there the second and third weeks of August, it will be our third year, so if you need any further advice feel free to ask.

Hi, thanks Wakey Wakey and Val for your replies. I will email Claudine. It's our first time to the Ardeche but have had a great time in the Dordogne on the river for the past few years but fancied a change. We will be there at the same time! We are hoping to leave the car and walk into Vallon of an evening to restaurants etc, some posts say it's about 30 min walk. Would you say that's about right. It's good to know that you are returning..it must be a good site.
Many thanks

I would say it's probably less than 30 minutes. It's a killer hill to climb to get there but on the plus side it's all downhill on the way back! You have to walk along the main road but it's not too bad...if I can manage it then most people will be fine, I am NOT very fit!

The Ardeche is lovely, it makes me feel happy just thinking of being back there

The site is right on the edge of the town, and I would say that to get to the centre is about twenty minutes (in the heat) away - but I wouldn't say it was a 'killer hill' (perhaps we're fitter than Wakey Wakey). Have a look on Google street view - you can see what the roads/pathways are like.

I think it's safe to assume you're all fitter than me The main hill isn't the killer but we take the short cut off to the left and that's a bit steeper. I'd agree with 20 minutes though, even for a lump like me.
