we have a nissan x trail and took steps with us this year it helps unloading but also allows better reloading, focus not as tall so maybe a collapsable step would be ok

We have a roof box on our discovery so a step ladder is essential. We always tie it down too, you can never be too careful

Our roof box close up nicely when locked,all nice and solid.
Why do i use tie down straps then

Single step worked a treat. Should have fitted the internal straps the other way round. Got away without an external strap or bunjies. Got better at packing it as the tour went on.
Obviously there's a bit of a hit on the MPG but cheaper fuel compensated for most of that.
Thanks again to everyone who offered suggestions and advice.
