We sail Hull - Zeebrugge on 25/08, we WERE planning to come back on 11th, but got notification last Friday that the saling had been cancelled for essential repairs.

THankfully I was was able to act on this and managed to get a sailing from Rotterdam. An additional 2hrs 20 minutes, 181 km extra...so both extra time and petrol.

We are now having to re-plan a stop over at this lat stage.

I feel sorry for all those people who didn't see the email until they got home and were having to take pot luck with sailings, or worse still facing the long trudge from the south coast back home.

We are booked to come back from Zeebrugge on 3rd September. I haven't seen anything about it being cancelled. Is it a one-off?

It's the sailings on The Pride of York between 8th and the 11th September that are affected.

Due to unplanned essential maintenance, the sailings operated by the Pride of York between the 8th and 11th September 2016 have been cancelled on our Zeebrugge service:
·        Zeebrugge to Hull 08Sep16 at 19:00
·        Hull to Zeebrugge 09Sep16 at 18:30
·        Zeebrugge to Hull 10Sep16 at 19:00
·        Hull to Zeebrugge 11Sep16 at 18:30
As a result, we have regrettably had to cancel your sailing below.

Yes, there is the Rotterdam crossing to consider for future trips.

We're switching our allegiance to Italy, having holidayed in France for the past 18yrs, it's time to explore the land of my forebears.

It will sure be strange camping in Italy, lets hope the sites are as good French ones.

Think that means "The bloomin' boat's broke" !

Actually the vessels on the Rotterdam service are newer and nicer, so I wouldn't worry too much.

Mate you will be right, all the campsites we have stayed on(and there has been a few) have been excellent. The Italian people are really friendly. Might see you there.

The extra schlep up and down to Rotters is a bit of a bind, but have to say when we used Pride of York we were surprised how rusty it was. Must be those narrow ginnels they have to negotiate at Hull.

That aside, it all worked well and The Brasserie was great. No rust involved

Mikey chops, it's almost time to get the gear out and pack for the annual road trip.

We're going a week later than usual, as we were going to F1 GP in Spa, but I'm not fussed, and Robert isn't now, so we're going to change our route and take in Milan, Lake Como and approach Limone from the southern end of the lake instead.

We're taking the Decathlon tent combo this year, the BIG Hartford XL was a nightmare last year...in fact the whole holiday was ruined by me being ill for 80% of it.

Mick - I am qtr Italian, of course the people are nice. The food id good , the language beautiful, they've got style, lets hope we get he full package and are smoozed by the experience!!!

Well, we holidayed in Sorrento years ago (took the train up to Roma, where middle DD was grooming for one of the Fiat Agnellis, who rode for the Italian Olympic team), and honeymooned in Tuscany (Montalcino, home of the famous Brunello), but had given bella Italia a pass in recent years.

So Como in June and Venice in July made up for it. Both were hot and crowded, but both beautiful in their different ways. We loved them.

Managed to get tables at the top two rated restaurants in Varenna, Il Cavatappi and Al Prato, and took boat trips to Menaggio and Bellagio. Loved it. Had a run down to Milano one day. Driving in and out of the city in our brand new Yeti was exciting.

Coupla pics to get you going

We thought about this for next year. But not at 700 euros a night

Venice was very special. Did all the tourist stuff - bellinis at Harry's Bar (ouch) round of GnT's at Florians (double ouch), Peggy Guggenheim's, a gondola ride, various boat trips etc. The hotel was two mins away from Piazza San Marco and Palazzo Ducale. Vivaldi was a past resident and wrote The Four Seasons there.

More pics:

All in all, it reminded us how wonderful Italy is. Annecy is still on the list, but next year's decision will be a tricky one, I can see that.

Hope you have a wonderful time

I recognise the shopping mall in Milano, St Marco Piazza, Dogges Palazzo, Pont de Soupirs, Ponte Rialto

Not suprised re the cancellation, the Pride(?)of York is reported to be in a poor state compared to her sister ship, the Pride of Bruges. Must be bad if they are having to send her to a shipyard at that time of year.

Yes, I agree. to disrupt service and risk upsetting passengers, knowing there will be compensation claims coming out of their ears, suggests to me that it is indeed URGENT.

I just hope everyone got sorted who were booked on the ship.
