Hi Bishy, we've been visiting France for 23yrs, the last 17 of which we use the Hull-Zeebrugge crossing. Zeebrugge to Lille is a short distance, then you are over into France. We use this route mainly because we prefer the central, SW and Cote D'Azur to the North and NW.
We go next week Hull-Zeebrugge, and back from Rotterdam (due to P&O cancellation). We are heading for Switzerland on the way to NE Italy (Lombardy & the Veneto).
We're doing an overnight just an hour south of Strasbourg as this is our half way point.
I see you are from North Lincolnshire, so Hull is an obvious port to sail from.
Hull-Zeebrugge takes slightly longer than Hull-Rotterdam, but it sails earlier (19:00), so we are off and on the road by 8:45 usually.
We wouldn't go on any other route. The time it takes to get to Dover or a southern port, plus the M25 and the Dartford tunnel makes it a no brainer for us.
We'd rather do an overnight on board than have to stay overnight in the UK.
Enjoy.
We usually sail on 18/08, so today I'm really out of sorts...only a week to go now.
