The A16 at Calais is going to be blocked by hauliers etc from early Monday morning. We are booked on tunnel and C&C Club have just emailed to ask if we want to change to another day. Seems to be around the port bit so are sticking with booking. Plus, who knows how long this will continue. Fingers crossed!

The protest is about the migrant situation in Calais. Not just trucks but farmers & Calais residents who intend to form human chains across motorways.

If traffic trying to enter Calais port & Eurotunnel is at a standstill then this will give migrants opportunity to smuggle themselves onto UK bound vehicles. Mostly this will be trucks but it is possible they could consider larger caravans or motorhomes.

From 'La Voix Du Nord' website & google translated...

Blocking the A16 and human chain on September 5 to denounce the migration situation in Calais

To "say stop insecurity in Calais" and the migratory pressure, blocking operation of the A16 - "indefinitely" - and create a human chain are announced for Monday, September 5. These actions will be conducted by the Great Gathering of Calais, the group of companies and shops of Calais, the national federation of road hauliers, the CGT, farmers and representatives of SCP Police. The public is invited to take part.

There were apparently long delays last night at Calais. My daughter was on the 11.45 pm Megabus from Antwerp, expected to reach London at 7 am. She texted at 8 am to say they were just coming into Dover!

It's all going off here. As indicated on P&O website there is a diversion to enter & leave port through town. Provided one stays off the motorways & arrives via N roads one should enter & leave port ok. It is also possible to leave Eurotunnel without going on motorway as well.

It would also be better to approach Dover docks via A2 as operation stack may well be implemented today.

We were booked on the midday P&O sailing today from Calais. Luckily I was able to look at the news while we were away and found out about the intended action. We travelled to Calais yesterday and were put on the 10 pm sailing at no extra cost, although we did not have a amendable booking.

My only criticism of P&O is I only received a text message at 6 am this morning warning us of the "extensive delays" expected, too late if I had not known about it independently to try and travel earlier.

Apart from that it worked well. I don't know if Calais or Dover or the ship was busier than normal as have not travelled that route for a few years but the lady on the desk we spoke to earlier in the day said a lot of people were trying to get on the earlier sailings last night.

Border checks were very quick and we drove straight out at Dover.

Home to cloud and rain after a wonderful, blistering week in the Ardeche!

Hi Val

Yes we had a brilliant time. I did not take you up on your offer of visiting. Trying to get 4 adults and 3 children to agree on anything is always an effort. For me at 33 degrees it was just too much of a challenge. We did visit Pont d'Arc and used the beach you and others mentioned. It was seriously busy but they loved it.

Its started, seemingly a 7 day blockade! Should cause chaos. We are in France until Sept 24 so hope its sorted by then, if nor we'll have to try and get a crossing from normandy!
I can't say I blame the truckers and Calais people, the camp should be cleared.
Its getting out of hand, truckers are only trying to do their jobs.
One for the politicians to sort out?

Like, you Dave, we're here until about the same date in September. We haven't booked a return crossing, so won't lose anything if we have to change our port.

Unfortunately, yet again, the French aren't doing themselves any favours in attracting visitors, by these actions which are putting off so many people. At a time when visitor numbers are already well down, I know at least two people who have put off a planned late season visit to France.

We go by Tunnel Wednesday morning , from France., Eurotunnel website says all services operating as normal today.
Other sites say all access routes to Tunnel are blocked.
Does this mean all trains running as normal....but empty?
French people here near Calais say it will continue tomorrow.
Anyone heard any different?
