I was wondering if anyone has managed to find a decent site near to Chartres? I know there's the municipal but it does seem to have mixed reviews. It would only be for a night or too but if there's something better close by, it would be good to know. Thanks in advance CC.

We have stayed at Camping Les Bords de l'Eure several times, although not for the past 4 years or so. We found it fine for a short stay, although from memory the sanitary facilities are a bit tired. There is a lovely walk through woods and park to the town. The stained glass in the cathedral is quite overwhelming and probably needs more than 1 visit. I found binoculars helped in seeing the detail.

We were at Camping Les Bords de l'Eure for one night early July last year. Agree the sanitaires are tired and outdated but the access to the town totally compensates. All depends on individual standards and priorities. I am not aware of any site that is near Chartres that is vastly better.

May be a bit too far away but we stayed 3 nights at the municipal camping at Chateaudun earlier this week. Very pleasant little site, by the river Loir (with fishing if that's your thing), a bit rough round the edges (some of the grass and hedges could do with a trim) but perfectly acceptable shower and toilet blocks, tv room with free wifi, shady or open pitches, on the edge of town, €12 a night for unit + 2 incl 10 amp electric.
We stayed at the municipal in Courville on August 11th. Good site with large grassy pitches and plenty of taps. Facilities old fashioned but clean all for 11.90 with ehu. Easy walk into small town for local shops and super u with petrol half a mile at top of town. Lovely helpful warden but no wi if.

Yes there is wi-fi at Courville, H&P, because we used it! We were there at the beginning of August. Its over by the warden's office. There's no password. Didn't you notice the teens sitting on the rail by the office, lol?
I really like Courville - so peaceful. We use the muni at Chartres once and will NEVER go back. Hated it.
