Can anybody recommend a campsite in the Calais area, close enough to the ferries, but good enough to spend a couple of nights before we return home?  tks

Superdad

May I suggest either Chateau de Gandspette which is near to St Omer or Le Bien Assise which is in a town called Guines and a little closer to Calais. There are also a couple of sites at Oye Plage we have stayed at which whilst nearer to Calais are not quite as good as the other two. My personal favourite is Gandspette. Mail me if you want more details.

Hi

we had 3 nights at the end of our holiday last year at  Le Bien Assise in Guines it was a nice site lots of people coming and going all day,  it had a indoor/outdoor swimming pool,  shop, bar, takeaway it was nice for a couple of days to unwind. We would definetly use this site again.

Also looking for a site in that area for a couple of nights on way home.just had a look at Le Bien Assise website , seems very expensive at 38 eu a night for 4 of us and electric , early July.

think we will use the site at hervelinghen as we did last year on way home, much less expensive....

We've stayed at Bien Assise a couple of times, the first  time was pleasant, then last year we were in a new bit, it was horrible and  soulless and pretty expensive. I'm on the lookout for something nicer, have a couple  of campsites in  mind, but nothing definite yet, will keep you all posted as and when I get replies from all the sites I've written to. There's one in Autingues, Camping St.Louis,  which sounds allright - and it's just up the road from Guines.

I would support David's recommendation of Chateau de Gandspette at Eperlecques. We stoped over there outbound and return in 2003 and liked it so much that we could have stayed there longer!

Owner friendly & helpful, pitches nice, toilet block outstanding.  Even a pleasant little on-site restaurant.

We always use Camping St Louis, Ardres which is about a 15 minute drive from the ferries. Its a small place with limited facilities but is very peaceful. when we were there in April it was 20 euros for 4 of us with ehu. There are a couple of supermarkets close by too.
