Argentat is a pleasant small riverside town, some lovely flower baskets along the riverside, and some mediaeval houses. The Tours de Merle, nearby, are worth a visit. You could certainly cycle into the town, on reasonably level roads, for a meal and there are some nice restaurants.
Any reason why this particular site? We've driven past it when we stayed nearby, but no more than that. The site is on an 'extension' of the upper part of the Dordogne, the quieter part, where there are some barrages for hydro-electrics, but it's not 'industrial' and the scenery is very pleasant.
Added later: the site scores 8 on the Dutch review site, and 8.1 on the main ACSI website. It may be worth your reading these reviews as some mention a lot of noise in high season. There are no reviews in English since 2013. It seems to be a site frequented by the Dutch. From here onwards are the only two reviews in English:
1. Wonderful location, very friendly and helpful staff, modern sanitary facilities always spotlessly clean and a fabulous swimming pool open in the low season. Only downside was rather iffy wifi connection, although it was free. We will be back!
2. We have visited this site three times in the last ten years-its position is just magnificent, in fact we have a large poster of it in a frame in our house to remind us of how beautiful it is.The pitches are a good size, some of them are riverside and as the Dordogne is controlled by a barrage just downstream it is essentially a lake, safe for swimming and boating ( canoes available )
Evening entertainment on the terrace of the Chateau is a very pleasant experience and the food in the restaurant within the Chateau is good. The surrounding area is quite good for cycling as there is a quiet road on the opposite side of the river (cross over the barrage to get there.)
We have no hesitation in recommending this site, but we have no experience of the situation at the height of the season as we have only visited in June/July.
