As we usually holiday in the Dordogne but need to have a shorter journey next year, please could someone who has holidayed at La G year on year tell me what the weather is usually like late July/early Aug??

I could say to you that when we were there the weather was gorgeous but that doesn't really mean anything other than we were lucky. Who can tell.
You mention the Dordogne, also when we were there the first time the weather was the hottest we have experienced in France. Two years later we moved on because the weather was so bad.
If you want to know about the site then I would say it's first class we thorughly enjoyed it. The only downside was it is a bit remote. You need the car to go anywhere
I have not stayed at that campsite, but have stayed in that area around 5 times, everytime for two weeks. We always had warm sunny weather around 25 with on average one bad day in the two weeks. One year it was above 30 every day but that was not the norm
Like everyone says, the weather these days is so unpredictable, that simply saying 'We had great weather in July and August' is no help.
This weather records website will help. You can select a town (I've looked at La Rochelle and Nantes because they are probably the nearest) and then pick a month, and flick through the years to see the differences in weather - and there are surprising differences in the temperatures and amount of rainfall between one year and another and between the north of an area and the south.
Good luck. Perhaps one year it might be worth trying the 'informal approach' of not booking and following the weather. We had absolutely no problems this year finding sites in both July and August - firstly in the Gorges du Tarn, then on the coast near Perpignan, and then in the Ardeche and the Ceze.

What Val said - in a camper van, you can follow the sun.
In our tenting days, it wasn't quite so easy. The Vendée is often said to have its own micro-climate - but that shouldn't be taken to mean it's always good. In mid summer we've had all sorts on the same day there, never mind the same week. It's why we started going further south. Even then, it's France, not Spain. You've always an excellent chance in the SE, but never any guarantees anywhere.
From you, and as you want a shorter journey, what about a Hull crossing then up to Holland or down to eastern France?

My advice is worth no more than the price paid for it
Great site, we went at the end of May 2012, staying in a caravan, and it was amazing, about 30 degrees all week.
2 years later we stayed nearby in La Tranche Sue Mer and it was 17 or 18 degrees and grey / damp / a little bit sunny all week, which again was end of May.
As it happens, the weather pattern reflected the weather we had at home, but a few degrees warmer.
It's only about 350 miles away, so unlikely to be massively different?
I'll do it again next year and hope for the best!

Last year the weather was Bueatiful.... Previous Years have varied... But cant complain... the Site is A1... we say every year "this will be our last"... Once again we booked before we left, for 2017...
We travel with an open mind now.... and expect average weather from time to time...
It was our 7th year this year just up the road from there. If you do a weather search look for Saint-Julien-des-landes it always comes up when I'm following the weather on the weeks leading up to our arrival.... using accuweather. Over the last 7 years I can say we've had everything going. This year was the absolute best ever scorching for 3 weeks, slight showers during the night once. We go school holidays by the way so the exact time you're talking about. We've had 4 days of rain and wind a few years back, I think this was when the UK had some major storm thing going on which was much worse. Generally we've always had a few days of rain but rain in France is not the same as rain at home. You're on holiday, it's warmer, you can travel away for the day etc.. we love the area and are back again next year. We rebook on about the 2nd day after arrival every year to ensure we get what we want. We don't go to your La G though it's too big and commercial. Our own La G is enough for us :) happy holidays x

Hi Smiledmb, Where do you go, I'm intrigued now!! Have been doing a lot of research around that area!!
We stayed there in July some 5-6 years ago and it rained every day. We had booked a pitch for 1 week and never used it, as rain was so bad. The site was lovely, staff very helpful and we just had fluke weather. We pad extra and took one of their chalets for 2 days hoping weather would improve.
My view is that the weather would normally be good that time of year i.e early - mid 20's.
We have since spent all our holidays in France either on the Med coast, but certainly no further north than the Dordogne.

I would presume La Guyonnière as t's just round the corner and another "La G", it was a bit smaller and less commercial from memory
