I am looking for a family friendly site with a good pool with slides bur within walking or cycling distance of a lovely town/ village. We had this (without slides) at l,ardechois. But looking a bit further north this year. Areas interested in is Loire valley, Brittany, mid France? As the weather is a bit more unpredictable the further north you go then we would also like something to visit/do on the not so nice days. Am I asking too much? I was very interested in Les alicourts but the reviews say you are not near anything😩

In Brittany sites at Benedet, Carnac and Carantec come to mind as having the things on your wish list.

Benodet has at least two sites that meet your criteria. North Brittany, Erquy has a lot of sites.

Camping Le Cenic in Penestin, Brittany
The site has a brilliant pool complex with multiple slides (we love the place and we don't have kids )
Penestin is a nice walk into and has restaurants and even a supermarket, but yet retains a small village feel. It even has a supermarket and has a fairly large outside market.
You can bike to the beach too.
And if you fancy a drive out, there are many places accessible

Camping du letty in Benodet is good but no slides. The site next door is more set up for mobiles but has the slides - think it is something like pointe st Gilles. Le Grand metairie in Carnac has some decent pitches, great slides and was my kids favourite place when they were 12-15. However it would be a bit of a walk to the town but an easy cycle.

We stayed at Camping Les Embruns in Brittany this year, it has play areas for kids and pool with slides, a small town and several beaches are close by and a visit to Quimper and Quimperle are recommended.
Have a read of the reviews on here for an idea of what it's like.

Ille d'offard in Samour could fit your bill. Samour is a lovely town with lots to see and do in the surrounding area as well.

As samour is more west, I was thinking Portsmouth Caen ferry. However the times are a bit funny with early morning from both sides, do people stay local? If they do where do the stay Portsmouth side if they get the ferry that gets in a 9.15 pm? We have 2 kids and wouldn't want to travel to Manchester at this time.
If we get the day time ferry, would you get a cabin for the 6 hours? Never done this ferry before, previous people's experience and advice would be appreciated.👍😊

I would have suggested Camping Le Ragis on the Vendee but having left Reddish about 30 years ago, I'm not so sure I want to be surrounded by northerners !! LOL - we have a static on the site and have for ten years now - we love it. its seen many improvements over the last five years or so and is well worth considering. they've even installed cycle paths into Challans, so might meet your needs?

its about a six hour drive from Calais using the main toll roads or a bit longer if you use the Rouen, caen, rennes, nantes route (at around 20 euros for tolls)

Coming home on the ferry from Caen witth a caravan many people spend their last night in France at one of the sites near the Caen ferry port and get the 0800 service home . It gets into Portsmouth at 1315 - time for most people to drive home. Day cabins are optional and cost about £25 - you can usually decide on the day - but the reclining seats in the lounge are plentiful and free for a daytime crossing.
