Taking money saving to the extreme but the prices for taking roofloads or high trailer loads seem to add up quickly. We can currently fit 3 bikes on the rear of the car with clearance for the TT. For taking a 4th bike I was considering taking it on the roof using a conventional rack, but for the duration of the ferry trip where it's unlikely to be stolen or moving hence damaging the cover, strap it to the TT, then back on the roof once On the other side. Or should I just strap it to the TT for the full journey, but as per above am worried about bike damaging the TT or cover? Had considered the TT rack but I think the height with bikes would make it a high trailer anyway plus the cost of finding a rack to fit

Have you actually checked prices for your journey? It may not add to the price at all. You can take a roof box or bikes on Eurotunnel without any effect on price - and I know some ferries have a 'standard' price for a trailer, which doesn't go up until the trailer is something approaching three metres in height.
Always have my bikes on the roof of my 4x4 which makes them higher than the caravan and never been charged any more on any ferry. You are obviously different as you TT is a lot lower, do you normally end up on the lower decks where the lorries are or upper decks where the cars are? I would give them a call and ask before faffing about with moving bikes. Not sure what the nose weight of a TT is but with that and three bikes on the back is it still within limits of the car?
.... we solve this problem with a maxxraxx.com; have to be mindful of nose weight.
It allows us to carry our bikes and tow the trailer tent in a aerodynamic way.

Trailer tent rack front wheel off and you should just about get under the 1.89 for Brittany ferries
Far easier to tow with racks on trailer than roof
Took 4 yr before last that way
(I've got an old Conway one for sale if you fancy lol)

That was my original thinking too. Hmm are the Conway ones compatible with Cabanon (2008ish). Has 4 mounting points on corners under frame. Could be interested if it would fit. Would it be able to be couriered or does it not dismantle?

Adds £60 a return, trying to think forwards as the kids bikes keep getting bigger over the years so eventually the roof may be the only option anyway, for now am being a cheapskate!

It has legs that slip in instead of the drop down legs
I'm not sure if it fits the newer ones it's on an older Conway at mo
I'll get some measurements and pics if you want it will come apart to be taken by couriers

If you don't mind that would be great.
Basically I think it needs to look similar to the one in This link, seem to fit Conway/Sunncamp/Cabanon so could well be the same but any measurements I.e between legs and I'd be able to check.
If you want to send any pics or if you've an idea what you are wanting for it mail me on jakehake at yahoo dot co dot uk
This is what it looks like off and on I'll get the measurements when I can ( stuck in garage st the mo)
Don't know why there not showing, they are in my gallery on my profile you should be able to see them there

Cheers for pics. The one of the TT certainly looks the right shape, on the pic of them led on the floor the side bars look shorter than than the bike racks, is that my eyes playing tricks? Or do the poles extend to fit the frame? I'd assumed those poles must be about 1.8-2m based on length of a TT?
Sorry if I've confused you these are stock pics of one that's the same ( especially on ) rather than mine which is actually on the tent at the mo
