Just got our renewal from Club Care (Camping & Caravanning Club), for house insurance. We go with them because you can usually leave your house empty for 180 days. BUT, this new policy stipulates 60 days. Anyone else noticed this?

Does anyone know of another insurance that covers 90 days plus?

Obviously we will ring them and ask.

Susan

Caravan Club house insurance allows 90 days away, but beyond that you can get advice from an insurance broker.

I have checked with Saga, More>than and Axa insurances about the definition of "unoccupied".

All agree that there is not stipulation for occupation to require someone to be there overnight

I arrange for one of my children or grandchildren to come to the house and to make a landline telephone call. This gives evidence of occupation of the property and the unoccupied countdown reverts to zero .

I think everyone needs to be careful and read the policy documents. My own home insurance defines "unoccupied" as "not lived in" . Every insurance company will have a black and white written definition, and they will not all be the same.

yes, ring them up and get it amended to 180 days doesn't cost any more - you'll get another piece of paper with RSA Extended Acceptance Criteria which states the 180 days cover

Yes, we phoned them. The 180 days is for Members. The Extra slip of paper stipulating this will come with the documents.

Thanks everyone.

Thanks for pointing this out.
Never ever given it a thought before now.
I will be checking later.

Greg
