Hello. I have spent days and days trying to work out where to go on holiday next year and I'm hoping that you might be able to help!

Location we want to be on the eastern half of France. No further south than Annecy (and not around the lake as we have already booked a site there for half our stay) and not too far north either (want some sun). The most important thing for us is a decent size pitch with a view. And we like to hire a fridge. I've seen the premium pitches at the Castel sites. Are there any other sites that do the same sort of things?

We will be taking the family so do like a pool or lake so best not to be a teeny tiny rural site

Thanks (I hope!)

Lac d'Orient perhaps?

Thanks for the suggestion. But we've tried there! Think this is going to be a common theme...

We stayed at Camping JP Vacances in Le Tholy summer 2015. I don't know about fridge hire but it was a lovely site with a pool and views. There was is Lac de Gerardmer nearby which was great for the kids with a water slide.

I've spent far too many hours/days looking for next year's site too. I am incredibly fussy!

You say you've tried Lac d'Orient, anywhere else that should be excluded from the suggestions?

I always think that if you spend too long looking for 'absolutely ideal' sites, you may miss out on beautiful areas where a site may be less than ideal. The site, after all, is only the base for your holiday - and certainly for us most holiday memories weren't the site itself, but what we did whilst we were there.

I would choose an area that you'd like to visit, and then look at the sites in that area, to see which comes closest to your criteria without having to match a full wish list.

A beautiful view, to me, would perhaps suggest campsites in hilly areas, such as the Vosges, or possibly the Morvan area of Burgundy....... or perhaps others know beautiful areas in eastern France better than we do and you can narrow down your search to a smaller area than 'Eastern France'.

I can recommend Camping La Colombière at Neydens, near Geneva, although in France. Huge pitches, good pool and restaurant. Amazing views towards the mountains, with loads of hang gliders launching off.

My left field suggestion is ... have you considered Germany ? Somewhere in the Moselle would be reachable (I can recommend Landal Warsberg at the top of a vineyard in Saarburg, just over the French / Luxembourg border, though I'm not sure about fridges) and the Black Forest is also reachable on your way to Annecy.

You lot are fantastic! Some great suggestions there. We have stayed all over the French Alps so that's an area to exclude. Off to look at your suggestions now!

Thanks very much

How about La Pergola in the Jura,a Castels site with premium pitches. It's on the shores of Lac De Chalain with lovely views from your pitch, a couple of pools, a restaurant and activities on site.

And much to the delight of our kids (12 years ago), red squirrels.
