Thinking of booking here for next summer at La Tranche sur Mer. Can anyone give any advise on pitches? Where are the best/largest pitches? Can you choose a preference? If I phone is their english OK or is it better to email? Do they rent out fridges? Also any other tips/advise about this site. Thanks in advance x

That doesn't really worry us as we've been to La Garangeoire several times which is in the middle of nowhere, so I free bus will be a luxury . Which sites have you stayed in andyd71 in that area that you can recommend?
Really only go to Bel in that area its so convenient and the kids have regular guys who go back yr on yr, le bai de nuit is supposed to be good less structured
depending on what you want as theres only really a basic pool on both these and they tend to be UK/dutch dominated and quite busy School hols
both these are a 10 minute nice seafront walk to restaurants/town centre etc
the other sites in the area are supposed to all be good but ( and i know its a stupid thing to say) very french and further out again
Jard does have its own restaurant bar area close by but its a bit of a strip effect rather than a town centre , and it is possible to walk into la tranche in 30 mins or so.

Sorry Richg1968, just seen your post, yes we have booked for 12 nights in August. Still none the wiser about pitches per the original opening post - so if anyone has any info please it will be gratefully received
We're going back there next Thursday. The pitch sizes are pretty uniform. You may think you've got a monster pitch when you pull up, but be aware most are doubles with a small tree or bush at the front indicating the boundry.I would describe them as medium in size.
Last year ( mid July) our allocated pitch was a little too far from the shower block. We take my mother who is 81.Trotted off to reception, chose another pitch, no problems. They speak very good English.
There are a lot of mobile homes on site, they seem very popular.
If you have a pitch too near the front of the site you may get some noise from the bar, when they have a "do" on. Didnt bother us.
We drive into La Tranche and park in the big car park on the front.
Take your credit card, can't pay with cash at the machine.

We stayed in a mobile home on a campsite in Jard Sur Mer, if it's the same one it was very nice (although a good few years ago). Short walk into town. It's quite south in the Vendee but it's all lovely around there.
We like this site and have been there 2 years running.
Walk to the beach, walk to Le Griere Plage , free (air-conditioned!) bus to Le Griere Plage, La Tranche and past. Go throughout the day.
Went to La Tranche beach but it was just 'busy' and much preferred the walk to one.
Play park is in the middle of the site - so no losing children with a playpark near the parking or the enterance. It is big (not ginormous) and is shaded.
The front 2 washblocks are quieter as they are more mobile homes there - so we visited these more. The one at the back is older and gets smelly just before being cleaned.
It has toilet tissue all day IN the toilets (none of this outside the toilet & decide how much you will need) and soap sometimes. Wash hand basins are also inside the same building, you will pass them when going back outside - so no excuse for children. Toilets have seats too.
Not many water taps on site.
We have hired a fridge and get an under-counter sized one with an ice box to keep the ice creams and ice blocks frozen.
one thing to mention is that the beaches near the site ( la Griere Plage ) is south west facing and the town beaches are south facing so all generally very flat and safe, even though if you want to swim it can be a walk to get deep enough at the town beach.
if you or anybody with you want a more normal beach to swim to body board or surf then la terrire which i just 2-3 kms round the coast is brilliant ( cafe/bar and surf school on beach) just a bit rougher.
all the beaches and car parks get very packed on the weekends up until the 15th august.
Fire works on the 14th are brilliant
I'm in town 26th -14th

Thanks for the tips everyone . We're off on 7th August , can't wait, although it apparently the last time my daughter is coming with us (so she says, she's 17) so it'll be the end of an era holiday Andy, are the fireworks on 14th July or 14th August?

Usually the buses show on screens the times of the free showings of music/ fireworks etc and there details.
If watching from la Griere Plage at night you can see the ones from the Island opposite and the main ones at the main beach at Le Tranche. Beach is COLD - think English autumn. You can JUST get your car back before the barrier shuts at the campsite.
Last summer there was an entertainer who was a fire eater - heard about it as we don't do entertainment stuff.

this our first yr with out our eldest (hes 18 this yr) was coming with us and i'd booked the ferry for him but he had a better offer down under.
the fireworks can run quite late so don't know how that effects you in Jard ( car parking already mentioned ) But i do think they are better closer up ie from main beach itself rather than further away, tried both methods.
