Anybody taken the BF Economie ships to Spain? Thinking of booking a return but am wondering what the chances of your MH being on an outside deck and getting covered in salt water and if so do they give it a good hose down or just a quick spray over. Thanks

Never thought there was much of a difference where it was parked except on the price. What do you lose going Economie with BF?

The web says that on the Economie ships, your vehicle may be parked on the open deck. I was wondering what the chances of this happening are and others thoughts on the Economie service.

I used the Etretat and Baie de Seine last month with a Van and trailer on the Etretat we were parked outside but not on the Baie de Seine.

The Etretat is an ex early superfast ferries boat and I would try to avoid it...its functional and safe. The Baie de Seine is the ex DFDS Harwich to Esberg boat which is finished to a much higher standard, still not full on Brittany ferries standard but closer.

In answer to your question on both ships they have both open and closed decks and the chances of being parked outside are dependent on how much or how little freight is on board.

Hazardous freight requires open decks on the whole, refrigerated trucks use the closed deck space

We used the Etretat from Le Havre to Portsmouth, but were parked on one of the under cover decks. From memory there are only a few spaces on the open decks - and some of the open space was used for 'doggy walks' for those using the pet friendly cabins.   It's not luxurious, and I'm not sure I would like to go all the way to Spain on it!!

I would far rather drive down through France, and make the journey part of my holiday.

Thanks folks for the very useful replies, I will have to think carefully which service to use but with �100 savings each way on the Economie the savings are very attractive. Unfortunately driving through France for this trip is not an option but any other time, definitely, as we love France.

We went last year and we were parked on the open bit anyhow, just pot luck, was a bit annoying looking down from the bar and seeing the bits I'd missed on the root

We have arrived in Spain on the Baie de Seine 10 days ago. It's a smaller boat than the 'cruise' option , we were on the open deck, trip was a bit rocky but not too bad. Van not covered in salt, food good but no restaurant, cabin much same as the cruise option we were on last year. Given the price difference we'd do it again!

Some of the timings are more convenient than others, but the Sunday evening Economie sailing from Portsmouth means two nights on board and a whole long, long, slow boring day in between.

Thanks Carolewest for the reply, we did use the BF Economie in March and April. On the outward journey we were parked on the open deck but did get covered in salt spray and although they did hose the vehicles down, I think we got missed and the MH needed a good wash down when we got to the first site. On the way back we were parked inside so guess it us just potluck. I agree with all your other points and yes we would use again.
On the way back, because of essential maintenance we finished up with 2 nights on board and do agree it is a long day but at least we had the cabin to retire to and I managed to get most of my holiday video edited before arriving home.
One word of warning, being with 3 Mobile we had roaming on all the while but both the wife's phone and mine picked up a signal I guess from another ship and that quickly ran us up a max roaming bill. This has happen to us before near another port in Spain so now must remember to turn roaming off anywhere near a port.

That's wrong. Etretat is a Visentini one of a fleet of them built primarily as freight carriers hence the limited onboard facilities. Cap Finistere is the previous Superfast V and isn't an Economie ship.
