Dear Subscribers
All ACSI Pre Orders Dispatched.
Its ACSI CampingCard time of year again and what a week we had.
We received one delivery of ACSI guides on Monday, which consisted of one pallet of Part 2 books and the rest were part 1 books. Thankfully we had enough to dispatch all of the First Class and Airmail pre orders.
We received the rest of the stock yesterday. Please check your guides for immigrants as 7 were found in the back of the truck by the driver having parked overnight at Boulogne.
We have now dispatched all of the second class orders. Hopefully you should receive yours before Christmas, if you pre ordered one.
If you have not pre ordered your 2017 CampingCard we can send you one next week.

I've got mine today direct from ACSI. As well as giving us 'cheap' sites ACSI has the added advantage of giving us something to do in these dark days planning our trips away in 2017. Yippee!

We think the books are a waste of time and money as we find it a lot easier to use the DVD as you can select the region where you want to go and then eliminate sites that do nto accept twin axles or dogs.
Once we have found some sites, we look them up on the Campingcard website and read the reviews and then decdie which sites we are going to visit.
We did get the books last year but as newbies to the continent we found them difficult to use as you had to go through them page by page to find suitable sites so gave up in the end.
Any one know when the 2017 DVD will be Online to buy?
Although it covers more sites the DVD does NOT include the ACSI Camping Card that gets you the reduced prices at campsites which is the whole point of buying the books, so there is no real comparison.
I have to disgaree as the DVD does include all the sites that accept the ACSI Camping card.

You seem to miss the point.
I didn't say that the DVD doesn't cover the sites accepting the Camping Card, I know it does, but that it does not include the Camping Card itself which is why most people buy the books in the first place - to save money at the listed campsites out of season.
If you don't want or need or use the discount card then I agree, the DVD is probably better than the books so long as you have the equipment to use it on the road.

What I buy the DVD for is the Planning side doing our Routes and Map of the Route and printing it out.
There is not a separate section or listing for Camping Card it just comes up in the Details of the Campsite you bring up if they take it. Only current for the year of the disk though is only a guide from then on.

Sorry I misunderstood your post. I appreciate that you have to buy the books to gte the card so without the card the DVD is a bit useless. A bit of a con, but one that we can live with.

I think that you miss the point of the books - one of which has a tear out card that you use to get a discount on those sites which accept it. In order to get the discount you have to buy the books, but on some sites the per night saving can be substantial. As just on example, on a site we use the ACSI Card, up uuntil the 17th July, the ACSI Card rate is 15 euros per night, for pitch, two adults, car and caravan, aawning, and electricity. The site charges 11 euros per night more than this rate. In addition the ACSI card will give you a discount for seven nights - when you pay for only six nights. So seven nights using ACSI Card would be 90 euros, seven nights paying the site the normal rate would be 182 euros! There are sites where the difference between the ACSI rate and the site normal rate is 26 euros PER NIGHT on some dates!
You really need to compare the normal rate with the ACSI rate to decide whether it is worth dismissing the books as a 'waste of time and money'.
In our case, having more than two months on sites this year, we must have saved hundreds of euros using the ACSI Card.
As for ease of use of the books, for France, for example, they are broken down into 'Regions' and within those into Departments and sites in each department are listed by alphabetical order by town name.
The DVD includes several thousand more sites than the ACSI Card guides - all those inspected by ACSI Inspectors rather than just those which accept the ACSI Camping Card, so is an essential route and site planning tool for many people especially if they go in high season when the card isn't accepted.
