We spent 3 glorious weeks next to Lake Garda and thoroughly investigated the area in that time.
We LOVED Limone and stayed on 'Camping Nanzel' which is just a short walk from town at the very end of the cove. The other campsite is really HORRIBLE. Anyway Nanzel is privately run and the family are lovely.
We were not keen on Riva and certainly didn't like the southern end of the lake.
Places worth visiting: Malcesine, Monte Baldo.
Verona, Cremona, and the vineyards up towards Trentino.
Day trip round the lake - fantastic value, whatch the times though, you need an early start to fit everything in.
Tip: Limone and the northern end are near the Trentino.
area and have a major German influence..food etc. You;ll find all menus' in German and Italian.
We approached via Germany, Switzerland which was nice but the journey back was fabulous. We went up the Brenner pass to Austria, spent a few days near Innsbruck, up through Germany and Holland to Rotterdam.
We spent longer than intended in Limone because we liked it so much, so we are heading further south this year (Sienna).
Enjoy.
