I just use Booking.com , and pick a place with a dozen good reviews.

PS. I don't look for the cheapest.

B&B at Evreux, near route and plenty of shopping/eating nearby.
Or where you thinking of a proper French rustic B&B where the landlady keeps a fag in her mouth while cooking you a 4 egg breakfast!!!! Happened to us!!!
We thought it was part of Hello Hello tv series

"Premiere Classe" budget hotels for us every time, cheap as chips and most have a "Campanile" restaraunt in the same grounds, were you get 15% of a slap up evening meal as a PC customer.

Parking at most PC's is fenced and secure gated.

How far down the road do you want to be? We've stayed at loads of places down that way, from Val de Reuil (just south of Rouen) as far as Vierzon, and plenty in between. We sometimes choose cheap budget hotels, and sometimes more characterful Chambre d'Hote, but always at a reasonable price. I can recommend both, so if you say approximately where you want to stop I can probably recommend somewhere in that area! We too use Booking.com, then sort by price, and then I go through until I find a review which is nearest to a 9 as I can get at a reasonable price!

We have used these last year, one night and even take a dog too. room clean and a massive buffet breakfast.

HotelF1 Boulogne sur Mer this is the one we stayed at, we didn't want to be too close to Calais .

Unless you are going Saturday at peak period then little need to book a hotel. That way you can stop when you are tired. The French budget hotels are Premier Classe, B&B, Ibis Budget & a few others.

Check their websites for locations along your route but you will usually find them grouped together around bypasses or just off Autoroutes at any town medium size upward. If you do want to book then you might as well book directly with the hotel websites.

We book the B&B at boulogne sur mer on the B&B website and find it excellent when using the tunnel as it is near but not too near! We also book through the Accor hotels website and usually book the ibis budget hotels which are excellent, the website also shows a map so you can choose where you want to stay.

We stopped at the Ibis in Boulogne in December and very nice it was too. There is also an Ibis Budget not too far away but it's opposite a remand centre and only has an outdoor car park. We decided to pay a bit more & stay at the main one with its underground car park.

Another delight of Boulogne is the Brasserie Chez Jules for some proper French cooking.

We stop at B&B Limoges on the way down to the Dordogne and either B&B Evreux or Orleans on the way back. All three are perfectly fine stop-overs.

Well in Chartres there are the usual budget hotel chains, but prices tend to be more expensive in the city than many others in the chain, because it's a tourist destination. There is a Premiere Classe, and an Ibis (both of them fine for overnight). Ibis has two classes of hotel, one which is usually called 'budget' and the rooms there aren't as good, nor does there tend to be a restaurant in the budget versions. However, they are usually close to the chain restaurants such as Campanile, Courte Paille, and Pizza del Art.. The 'normal' Ibis, and Premiere Classe will probably be around £45.00 plus two x breakfast

Not knowing what your budget is, I would say that if you're not tied to a very low budget, then in Chartres spending just a little more will get you something with more character such as https://www.lejardincathedralechartres.fr/, just a short walk from the Cathedral and the town centre, and just the most beautiful place. When you take a budget price hotel, then add on breakfast, and the fact that you'll be in an 'office/retail/hotel park' I would pay just a little more for character, luxury, convenience, and parking right at the heart of things.

We always use booking.com, and as I said, sort first by price, and then go down the pricing until I find something with a higher than average review score, have a look and see what it offers, as these days we would rather go for character than price. We also tend to find somewhere just outside the town (although the above recommendation is an exception) preferable where they offer an evening meal on arrival, to save us going out for the evening!

For us its just a place to get your head down after a long day driving. As long as it is clean, then we're happy. We pay about 90 Euro for four with breakfast each. TBH, for the sake of a few quid I'd rather have the convenience of being close to the main roads so it is quick and easy to get on with the journey in the morning. Most budget places have a restaurant in close proximity (the Evreux & Limoges B&B's have a rather nice steak houses next door).

It's on booking dot com and it's called La Grange D'Iseauville. Highly recommended, we reviewed it on there.
