There is lots of information, including recommendations for overnight sites, in these previous threads about campsites in/near Santander. Hope this helps.

Going to Spain in May for the first time, can anyone recommend an overnight campsite near Santander please.
No need to stay on a capmsite near Santander if using the Santander ferry. Arrival is about 12.30 so if heading south Riaza is very do'able. If east then campsites around Longoro are do'able. On returning the ferry leaves late afternoon so an easy drive from San Sebastian and other places. Reviews on campsites around Santander do not appear to be very flattering.
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
You don't say whether you are just using Santander as a transit point to South or East Spain.
Having spent many camping hols along the north coast ... I strongly recommend exploring that area ... The Picos de Europa are stunning, and the whole area from Bilbao over to Santiago de Compostela is coming down with places to see and relax and enjoy.
Several of my reviews cover sites in the area ...
It could be a big mistake to desert the area when you have invested a fair amount to get there, as well as, possibly, adding a lot more miles of travel, when such riches are on Santander's doorstep!
Thanks iank01 and Kelper. We arrive in Santander at 17.30 and wanted a campsite within an easy drive from the port. After that we've made no further plans yet. We ve heard that Salamanca is worth a visit? But don't want to go much further south before turning north again and heading for the Pyrenees. But we haven't dismissed staying on the north coast of Spain as you suggest as this is our first visit to the area. So, your experiences and recommended campsites are more than welcome.
