Hi
Can anyone tell me if cost of food, petrol, eating out, camp fees etc are very high. we have only been to cities in Italy and found costs to be relatively high for eating out - we were staying in hotels so not sure about other costs nor other countries. A work colleague mentioned that the cost of living in Austria was prohibitive but I am not sure this would s the case.

Have look at Slovenia - lovely food reasonable costs. dont know about campsite fees or petrol but can find out as my brother and sister in law have an apartment in Llubjana, Slovenia. All I can say is its a beautiful country with very low costs.
Food, Clothes, Eating Out, Campsites and Fuel in Austria are the cheapest in Western Europe. Germany is about the same too. We have found this over the last 10 Years, The only thing I have found more expensive is Sea Fish, Prawns etc as they are a long way from the coast and of course British products. My OH and I buy all our Spring/Summer Clothes and Shoes in Austria when there in April/May/June every year.
Obviously everything is going to be a little dearer in Pounds in the coming months or less the £ makes a recovery.
Hope this helps.

Lizzie Years ago Austria use to be expensive but not any more Italy and Switzerland are the most expensive. But both Germany and Austria are far cheaper than France or the U.K.
I think they might be getting Austria and Switzerland confused! Austria is very reasonably priced - perhaps slightly cheaper in parts of Germany, but really a lot cheaper than the UK.
