Hello all you lovely people

Thinking of going to the Black Forest this summer. Have never been there before (spent years camping in France). I cant seem to find much information about the area on the internet. Also, the campsites all seem to be smaller with less facilities than the 5 star France ones (not that this is a bad thing)

So here are my questions.
1. What is there to do in the Black forest for a family with kids ranging from 4 - 14. Are there lots of sights / activities t do? Can anyone recommend and "must do" sightseeing.
2. Campsite recommendations - preferably with a pool, bar and some sort of play area for kids.

Many thanks

Daffy

The Black Forest Area is a wonderful area to visit and plenty to see. We have been going there for over 35 years We have stayed at 4 different Campsitess Two of them we have stopped at 4/5 times are ACSI Camping Card Sites out of season and 5"
The facilities are 5" and far better than any site we have stopped at in France.

BF is not the area I would expect to have sites with Swimming Pools but there is always one nearby. Both the sites below are situated virtually in the middle of the Black Forest Area and are excellent.
Not much more I can write on here as not enough room. If you would like to contact me on dvphillips14 at hotmail.com I could email you more info of places to visit with photo's'
The first site is near a main road the second more rural.

We have stayed at Kirchzarten near Frieburg in the past. Went to Parc Europa which in my opinion is the best theme park we have been to. The kids preferred it to Eurodisney!. An alternative would be Clare Vacances near Colmar. It's only around 5 miles to the German border in the Black Forest area. Last time we went there, we spent the 1st 10 days shopping & sightseeing in Germany & the 2nd 10 days doing everything in France.

Its a great destination for a family holiday for sure.

This site has lots about things to do and see here

We also have only stayed at Munstertal campsite and will be going back again next year. It is a 5* campsite in every sense although won;t have the flumes and slides if you want that sort of site, but very nice indoor and outdoor pools overlooking the mountain with spa, restaurant with bar, shop, large play areas, mini golf, tennis, 5 a side pitch, fishing lake etc etc.

The facilities in showers etc are some of best anywhere we have seen.

Highlights of area are certainly Europa Park as mentioned, allow two to three days here, probably best single park in Europe if not anywhere for everyone to enjoy.
Rodelbahns coming down side of mountain on a toboggan are a must visit as are the larger mountains like Belchen on the cable car or hiking or cycling if very fit!
Loads of other stuff to do in BF itself or trip over into France or Switzerland of course as so close

Where we stay you can cycle either way on flat cycle lanes and pop into a nearby town for a kaffee and kuchen or one fo the many local beers or wines. Its a nice clean, relaxed place that we really enjoy visiting now.

Different to much of france for sure, not better but different.

The site we stay is certainly cheaper than any equivalent 5* site we have found in France I would say, not sure thats the case everywhere though

If travelling down from Calais go via Belgium, Lux and into Germany tat way for similar time but reduced or no french tolls.

have fun planning!

Read Jerome K Jerome's Three Men on the Bumel, free on Amazon Kindle store and packaged with Three Men in a Boat.
It perfectly describes exploring the region and that you will discover a restaurant at every viewpoint. It may be 100 years out of date but you are sure to enjoy it.
