Hi we are going to the Netherlands in August for two week can anybody give me some tips of were to stay and places to visit, and does and donts.

My son lives near Amsterdam . We are going to delft at Easter .and have been to the site a few times now .
We have been to a site near Eindhoven as well . We stayed on a mini camp site there . Have a look at some of these if you like smaller type sites.
Do you have children if you do there are some excellent theme parks . Efteling is amazing .
Also the coast from The Hague all the way up is worth a visit . North of Amsterdam and a place called texel again north of Amsterdam . I haven't been but my son has . He said this area is also very nice.
It depends on what things you like and if you have children . Also if you want stay on one site or move around . Dont forget to take bikes although you can hire them in most places .
I'm sure there are some Dutch people on here who might reply .
I lived and worked in Amsterdam and Utrecht for a number of years. In some ways I preferred Utrecht as it was a less touristy city.
Amsterdam itself has some great museums. Most people want to see the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh museum which is close by. I'd recommend the Maritime museum as well.
There are numerous street markets that are worth a look round.
North of Amsterdam, I recommend Enkhuizen which has a superb open air museum.
Other places to visit... Delft, Leiden, Alkmaar (with it's famous cheese marker) and Apeldoorn - home of the royal palace, Het Loo.
Dont's - dont stand in a bike lane unless you have a death wish. Don't give anything to the professional beggars. Don't stand on a street corner looking at a map
- it marks you out as a tourist and hence more vulnerable to the 'bad guys'.
------------- Two drifters off to see the world.
I'm tired of reality, so I'm off to look for a good fantasy.

You'll have a wonderful time, we like the Netherlands very much. A bit of info about your set up -little or big kids or no kids, adventurous, culture vulture, nature lovers, cyclists, beach babes etc etc?
We almost went camping there last year until I decided to spend my holiday in hospital instead. We were booked at a campsite called Aan Veluwe at Arnhem. They hadn't asked for a deposit and were lovely when we mailed to cancel, and hoped I'd get well soon. They also have on-pitch private bathrooms. That's all I know, I never made it there, but I thought they deserved a shout-out just for being kind.
