We are planning to use campsites along the Croatian coast using our ACSI card in May &June.
The prices we've been quoted when trying to book have been almost double the ACSI price. We've made sure the sites know we are using ACSI but it seems there is a price for pitch then a price for adults - all very confusing!
Are Croatian campsites on the coast really that expensive off peak?
Can anyone who's camped in Croatia shed some light please?
Thanks

That's because the campsite booking system will charge you the normal price, rather than the price with an ACSI Card. With an ACSI Card generally you don't book - just turn up on the day, show your ACSI Card and get the discounted rate. The ACSI Card covers pitch, two adults, car and caravan, awning, electricity (up to 6 amps) and one dog. The top price is 19 euros and there are plenty of sites throughout Europe for just 11 euros. The site's 'normal' tariff may well have a price for a pitch, then a per person cost, then a charge for electricity and a car and may well be double the ACSI Card rate.

This is why ACSI is such a good deal on some sites - where we have saved up to twenty-six euros per night for a few nights in the 'crossover' season between high and low season rates.

Which site are you looking at? Perhaps someone who goes to Croatia regularly can confirm that there will be no need to book in June.

Those of us who use ACSI cards regulary don't book - perhaps some phone 'on the day' to check on pitch availability, but we always just turn up and have never not found a pitch.

Thanks Val A - really helpful. I think we just need to be a bit braver and wing it!
Coastal sites we're considering so far,
Camping belvedere
Camping resort solaris
Zaton holiday resort

I don't know Croatian sites, so can't tell you how busy they will be - but I'm sure others will help.

We've camped in Croatia in May, also in late August through September, but not June. We never booked anywhere and had no problems, despite the fact that we prefer smaller sites with fewer pitches.

We haven't used any of the sites you mention but have stayed at a small site in Zaton, near to Zaton Holiday Resort. Our impression was that it was so huge it would be unlikely to be fully booked except perhaps in July/August.

We are also hoping to get down to Croatia in May. We are booked for 5 nights in Natterer see near Innsbruck on the way.

We have stayed at Camping BI-village in Fazana on the Istrian coast near to Pula twice. A very large site on the coast, when we have arrived at the beginning of May there has been plenty of choice but towards the end of May]Early June it gets very busy when the German school holidays start. It then quietens down. We used Acsi here and I think its 19E all in.

We have camped in Croatia in June several times. The sites we have seen have all been fairly quiet (I think July/August are much busier). We have always used our ACSI card and have found prices to be very reasonable.

May and June in Croatia is quite peaceful, though as June progresses, it gets busier. Croatia has become so much more popular since our first visit in 2003. June was our favourite month to go, hot enough for the beach, comfortable enough for sightseeing, busy without being too crowded, but unfortunately we are now restricted to going in late August due to new work holiday dates. We stay in apartments and don't camp, but we have visited two naturist campsites in June in the past as in Valalta in Istria and there seemed to be plenty of pitches left. When we visited in late August last year....that was another matter!

Hi Lindylou,
We're looking at doing at similar trip next year - via Germany and Austria to, Croatia and then back via Italy and France. Be great to hear how you get on. This summer we're doing the trip we didn't get to do last year - including the Rhine in Flames! Enjoy your tour.

That's great. Glad to hear you will finally get to the Rhine in flames. Will report back on how we get on. Nothing in concrete apart from Innsbruck as yet though. No doubt will go Germany first. Always rather cautious as our motorhome is 8.7 metres and we caught the rear end on a hairpin bend a couple of years ago on the way to Montelimar from VALLON PONT D'arc. How is your new grand baby ? x

All good now thanks. We hit a rocky patch with him before Christmas when he was in intensive care 140 miles away for nearly 3 weeks, but he's bounced back really well - he's got an amazing gummy grin and a real chuckle on him. We're very lucky and looking forward to catching up on some serious caravanning this year! Hope all is well with you too.
