The place in the Charente was Verteuil-sur-Charente, there is a lovely restaurant called Cafe Portebleue which was mentioned but not named which sells gorgeous food. Been to the mill by the river for a drink but not to eat. Been to the village many times, beautiful place
According to the Radio Times it is a revised repeat and half an hour long. From memory the original episodes lasted an hour so seemingly an abridged version of the daytime series

Agreed...
ITV.com describe tonights show as;
"James Martin embarks on a nostalgic culinary tour around the country that inspired his career, sampling the cuisine as he strolls down memory lane. The chef's first stop sees him return to where it all started: St Emilion. He visits the legendary Chateau Cheval` blanc to cook his first dish and sample a glass or two, before going back to the kitchens of L'Hostellerie Plaisance, where he worked as a lad more than 30 years ago. He rounds off his trip by visiting some British ex-pats and cooking for them in their award-winning vineyard. Back home, James makes a delicious one-pot-wonder and a stunning soufflé."
That makes sense as the original series was screened 3pm till 4pm, with 20 one hour episodes.
So not a new series like I originally thought, and they have edited 20 hours down to 5 hours.
Maybe they should have advertised it as highlights of the original series, no mention of it being a repeat at all in Mrs Francais "TV Choice" magazine.
I suppose though in TV World speak, that makes it not a repeat of the original work, who are are they trying to kid, us or themselves.
Anyway the last series had far two many advert breaks, almost to the point of padding the show out.
Kieth Floyd will be turning in his grave at such goings on, especialy as they are using his former Citroen 2CV!
Just chanced on it tonight. In 2015 we stayed nr St Emilion and had lunch at the restaurant in the square where the family stayed, and opposite the posh gaff where he trained. Hadn't known the connection. Thought he'd trained here in Yorkshire.
We found a super Puisseguin St Emilion for about 10€ locally.
Just priced up the Chateau Cheval` blanc he raved about. The one glass he drank would have been about £200 worth
Series recording set, anyway
