not camping related but off to rome on the 9th march to watch rugby and celebrate my wifes birthday, last time we went we used the hop on off bus system, but obviously presume you pay more for the privilage, we wondered what the metro system was like compared to say london or how easy trams or public busses fair TIA

I went for the rugby a couple of years ago and it was fantastic.

The Metro is fine, BUT, lookout for pickpockets, they are not an imaginary threat, they will seek you out and have a go if you look the tourist. So take all the normal precautions and do not trust ANYONE on the metro, even if they are carrying what you think is a baby.

Trust me, I know! They had a go at my wife, my mate and his wife. They are not Italians, but Roma. They got away with nothing, but that was more luck than judgement. Do not look like a victim, and if anyone comes near you, give them a threatening look........It worked for me!

Do not let it put you off though, we had a fantastic time. 😀👍

The Metro is very easy to negotiate and inexpensive but as with all cities there are theives about. Take care.

The Metro is obviously not extensive as London. On both buses and metro I would echo the need for personal security. If you have the option take the minimum in terms of money and cards. The Metro can be crowded, especially near the major attractions so be suspicious of groups of people pushing to get into carriages. Personally I think London Underground is much better but unfortunately does not take to the places I want to see in Rome!!!

When we went to Paris some years back the Frenchman we were with would not travel on the Metro after 6pm in the evening he and we used a Taxi after that time. Much safer.

We went there last October & got a public service bus from the train station (Termini) to our apartment near the river. It was hellish! Absolutely rammed. On the way back we waited forever for the bus then gave up and walked.
The local lady we spoke to agreed it was awful and was getting worse
But I wouldn't let it put me off going again!
