looking for a fairly quiet site in the loire valley. We've done La Citadelle in Loches and Camping L'etang in Brissac Quince before, mainly in September. This year we have to go July/August when sites will be at their busiest. As our kids have kids of their own, a quieter site just suits us.
All suggestions welcomed

We stayed on the outskirts of Nantes at Camping Belle Riviere.
It was very handy for the city, walking distance to the Loire river and cycle paths and had a lovely relaxed and quiet atmosphere. The pitches were huge and the other campers were friendly.
We are going back for a four day break again this year.
Rambling Sid, Do you mean you are taking grandchildren with you? Ferme de Prunay near Blois might well suit them., especially if they are younger children.
Or do you mean you want a quiet hideaway without children around? The Aire Naturelle at Huisseau sur Cosson (between Blois and Chambord) or the municipal site on the river bank at Chatillon sur Loire would both do well for that.
Reviews for all three are already on here.

The municipal "Le Sabot" at Azay le Rideau makes a great base for all the main sites between Chinon and Blois - always plenty of room even in the height of the season.
We stayed upstream at Gien. Nice spot on the river and the river is pretty there rather than wide and lumbering. Ambois is lovely but I wasn't overly fussed by Saumur. Blois is good too. Son et Lumiere at the Chateau was worth seeing at the Chateau - I think it was Wednesday night in English.
