Sorry if this has been asked before, but what routes are there from Santander to Granada. We haven't driven in Spain before and have not tackled twisty mountain roads. What to expect?!!
Is there an easy route, hoping to rely on aires , as usual.
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
The roads from Santander to Granada are very good, tolls are not that expensive, much cheaper than France, and in general not that twisty.
Have a look at the 'about-France.com' website, there is a section that gives you lots of information about Spain as well.
Are you planning to stay in Granada?
Thank you.
We're thinking of heading for bolonia or costa tropical .Then wing it.
Still unsure.
We tend to like smaller places that we can park up nearby and walk to a town , so as not to lose your parking place for the night. we have a dog,
We would have loved to visit the Alhambra, but the dog rules that out.
I've got all the aires but there don't seem to be many aires shown in those areas so I'm looking for more resources or ideas for cheap back up places to stay once there.
Would love some advice on the route to take, not sure how long it will take , it's all very exciting, the planning.
Quite like look of extramadura too

Is that the link " about Spain" , sorry if I'm being dense, but we're going into this totally blind and need some info fast. Presuming it can't be that difficult

We stayed near Granada last summer ... see campsite reviews ... it would be terrible to go to Granada and not see the Alhambra! Find a dog minder for a few hours!
There are dog carers in Granada ... you could drop off your dog for a few hours: See here
Bolonia is one of the most beautiful, unspoilt beaches in Spain, adjacent to the amazing Roman ruins of Baelo Claudia. We have a caravan so used a nearby campsite and can't comment on the aire, but there's a lot of wild camping in the Tarifa area generally as it's a magnet for surfers and wind-surfers. Extremadura is also well worth visiting and much less "touristy" than many parts of Spain.
I agree with Kelper - the Alhambra is a must-see! Could you perhaps take it in turns to visit, while the other one looks after the dog?

About spain . com is the website.
there is an excellent campsite,( Motel Sierra Nevada) actually in the city, about 15 minutes by taxi to the Alhambra Palace, or you can catch the bus out side the camp site.
Its not cheap but it is in a great location.
i would advise booking the Alhambra Pace in advance as the wait to get in can be very, very long

If you do go to the Alhambra, either get there very early, or pre-book.
It can get chocker, and visits round some areas have set times that you must adhere to.
