Hello all I'm looking into the possibility of a combined ferry plus camping cheques for our first overseas trip to France. I understand that the cheques cover 2 persons plus EHU (may be reduce Amps) plus car.
I appreciate that I will probably have to pay extra for local taxes and my 2 kids (the websites for individual campsites list the charges for "Campeurs/Enfants Supplémentaires" so that's easy to calculate) but I can't figure out if awnings are included in the cheques or whether we'd have to pay extra again. Does anyone know? How do I ask this question in French? I can't figure out what the French word for 'awning' is! Why does GCSE French not cover this?
Any advice gratefully received, thank you!

I have never had to pay extra for the awning (l'auvent in french) anywhere in France or Spain.
It is just an British money making scheme.
Thank you so VERY much for such a quick reply and translation
Hi Poppy, as said the additional charges for extras'was something that we never saw in other countries but, sadly, does now seem to be creeping in. We have never seen an extra charge for awnings but on one or two sites have seen extra charges for pup tents.
When are you going to be travelling may affect the extras as well.

Many thanks for the additional information Allan. We're looking at out of high season and won't have a pup tent but we may do in a few years time! What's french for "pup tent"?

I'm afraid your choice of sites using camping cheques in high season will be very limited. Its not that great in low season in my limited experience . Most only accept them in low season although the there may be a few exceptions. Unless with the recent changes in has all changed.
Whoops just read properly... Sorrree .. still think choice is limited tho, unless you have a site in mind
Yes I must admit I am disappointed in the lack of choices compared to previous years - I had not read about all the changes before having now bought the ferry ticket combo. There is still variety but I get the impression it's nothing like in the past. So we will use some/most/all up in France and then use the rest in the UK as luckily there are sites that accept them close-ish to our home. My vouchers are valid to 2018, so some time to use them yet.
I think the combo is still a good offer as we saved on the ferry ticket but perhaps with hindsight I should have just bought the minimum number of cheques. Perhaps things will improve again in the future, who knows. We'll have to wait and see - I'm just keeping fingers crossed that this first overseas trip will go well otherwise my other half will not be impressed and I may be then limited back to UK only (love UK but need better weather in low season!!!)
