Hi
No, if you come from the A89, it's very easy. The A89 is yet at 900/1000 m, and the climp up from north of Clermont ferrand is very gradual. In fact, after the exit, you go down to St Sauves d'Auvergne, after it's flat. But, as it's a steep sided valley it will depend of where you go in Murat. The road to le mont Dore is also very easy. You will have good slopes only in the passes : col de la croix St Robert, or Col de la Croix Morand, in direction of Murol, and col de Guéry. There you have to climb from 1000 m to around 1400 m. The harder is the col de la croix st Robert in the way down to le Mont Dore. The other side is easier.
