Going to France for a tour round in the low season. We want to explore and not be tied down. Does anyone know how busy campsites are during the low season. We don't want to be tied to an area/time by booking in advance unless we have too. We will be using our ACSI card. Any information would be much appreciated.

In Low Season ... no need to book anywhere in advance.
An ASCI card might help reduce fees even more.

We very seldom book, even in High Season!

Just be aware that quite a few sites don't open until May and close mid September.

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!

However your ACSI book will tell you when the campsites are open, we find this extremely useful. But don't rely on all facilities being open either, you may only have 1 limited toilet block.

We never book, but seldom travel in high season.

No need to book. Bigger problem is finding the sites which are open. We r in Franc ATM. First site, SIllé le Guillaume had 4 pitches taken, next site at St Angeau we were alone until some backpackers arrived. Then at Pujols nr Villeneuve sir Lot there were quite a few camping cars and us with easily 80% of the site empty. Now at Camping Les Sablons Portiragnes - huge site lots of people in statics who are leaving (kids holidays over) again mainly campingcars but there are dozens of pitches available and all facilities including polls are open here.
We've have clear blue skies all the way.

We are currently staying at Camping Emeraude at St Briac sur mer, near Dinard. Using camping cheques for cheap stay. Most facilities up and running except entertainment.
Only us and 2 other tourers on site. Statics here but not sure how many full. We were concerned about not booking but were fine.

Yep, we always go to France off peak and have never booked a site.
