I am travelling through Rouen at the beginning of July.
I have a motorhome that is 3.1 metres high. If i follow the route for the toll road will it be OK? Will sat nav take me this way anyway?
Cheers

The route you take through Rouen depends on where you are going afterwards - towards Chartres, , towards, Alencon, or towards Caen.

It sounds simplistic, but after the Rouen tunnel you follow the road signs for Le Mans. At first it will be the A13 autoroute and then the A28.
Or you can avoid Rouen altogether by staying on the A29 to Yvetot and then going due south to cross the Seine on the Pont de Brotonne.
But if you want to avoid motorways then it's another ball game altogether. Good luck.

Going to Alençon, I leave the A28 at J10 and take the D929 west to Totes and just through the village, join the N27/A151 for a free dual carriageway/Autoroute over the Seine following signs for Le Mans / Alencon /Nantesand joining the N138and the D438 to either the A28 - Payage or if you prefer, the D438
All routes are busy but we never experience hold ups or problems this way.
Good luck.

All the routes through Rouen are scary until you do them.
Get Google Earth and look at Berriow's route.
Have fun anyway.

Is it better to take the D18E/E402/E46 and then join the A13 south of Rouen.

I wouldn't say it was better...or worse. It's just another possibility. "All roads lead to Rome", as they say, and in your case whichever way you go around Rouen you will pick up road signs at some stage pointing to Le Mans. Trust them !

As Berrow says, just follow the signposts.
Personally I only ever use the sat/nav in towns, never for getting from town to town. Much easier to rely on a map and signposts.

Thanks for all your replies. I will possibly go down the D18E/E402/E46 route, just to avoid the low bridge the other way.

if that route is the main one through Rouen, the trick is to be in the right hand lane as you come out of the tunnel. do NOT change lanes, the road will become three lanes, then four lanes but stay in the same lane. eventually your lane will filter off to the right and that is the way you want to be heading, so just go with it

When we went to France two years ago I was dreading navigating Rouen. On the way down, it was dead easy, not quite sure how or why but I didn't even realise we'd got to Rouen, much less through Rouen, until we went through the tunnel. It was as if we'd bypassed Rouen completely. There we were, patting ourselves on the back and wondering what all the fuss was about. Our smugness knew no bounds......On the way back, however, following what we thought was the reverse route, with the same Via Michelin app that had looked after us so well before, it all went to bats**t. We ended up in the middle of the town, on Friday afternoon, in rush hour. It's like Spaghetti Junction, only with the addition of shops, people, and traffic lights. Not to mention motorways which seemed to appear from nowhere, and rubbish signage. This was no fun in a close on 40ft outfit, after the fourth time going across the same flyover (it was still the wrong direction even on the 4th time-:) ) hubby was just about ready to park up and abandon car, caravan, me and his mother-:))
This time, we're going by ferry to Brittany, then up to Normandy, and home from Caen. We'll be avoiding Rouen like the plague. Several plagues, in fact lol. I don't think our marriage could stand another Friday afternoon like that one.

Coming northwards through Rouen, starting on the A13 on the south side of the city, there are big signposts saying Calais. I don't have a problem and don't have a sat nav, but I can read.
