We want to use the A3-A6 to get us from the north of Paris to roughly the Orly airport area.

We will not be driving through Paris, just on this outer ring Road.

The question is, do we need to buy this city pollution 'vignette' for our car (a one year old diesel)?

If you've not done that route before, just follow the signs for Bordeaux all the way from where the A3 leaves the A1 just past Charles de Gaulle airport.

I remember a newspaper article many years ago saying follow signs for Lyon. Is that the same autoroute? I haven't looked at a map as my husband is relying on the satnav.

Beenie, a satnav will probably direct you via the busy inner Paris ring road, the Peripherique. The advice Longcol gave you to take the A3 to the middle Paris ring road is the best way to go. Your own earlier mention of the outer Paris ring road will take you a long way round. Yes, there are three!

I wouldn't use a SatNav either - my son did, and because of roadworks it took him right through Paris, and around the Arc de Triomphe roundabout!

We were once on a coach and the driver went the wrong way round for two exits!!

If you're heading for Orly then Bordeaux sigms are more prominent than Lyon on the A3 / A86.

BTW if you're heading for Lyon I'd tend to avoid Paris altogether and go Reims, Troyes, Dijon etc (assuming you're crossing to Calais).
