Hiya,

We've been across to Germany several times in the last few years either with or without the van.

We stayed on the Mosel valley near Bernkastel (only about 1hr from Belgian border) , and a lovely area of Germany.

We also stayed near Prum (just over the border). Quieter area, but very pleasant, and not to far to cross the border into Luxembourg which is lovely, especially the north.

I'm thinking about doing it the other way in a couple of months ie returning from Germany through Ypres. I never book anywhere in Europe and only have a vague idea there I'm going.

I can only say that Ypres is well worth a visit and so is nearby Kemmel. I have my favourite areas in Germany - mainly the Saar & Mosel valleys, but I'm looking for somewhere different this time.

I won't even think about next year till then.

Brian, I wish I had time to think that far ahead.

I like Germany - having lived and worked there. As I said, my favourite areas are the Saar & Mosel valley areas.

I see that you're in Morley - is that Morley near Leeds?
In that case are you travelling from Hull? I'm using Hull - Rotterdam this year.   long way to travel, but DFDS from Newcastle is VERY expensive.

Normally, I visit Ypres on my way home and that's what I might do this year. I usually travel across the French / Belgian border and through Luxembourg down to Trier etc..
You night however want to go elsewhere in Germany.

Just back from my trip (see pt.1 of my trip report).

If you want to visit Ypres next year -I would (contrary to my usual advice) get booking. The place seems to be gearing up for he 100th anniversary of the armistice so I think that all next year will be very busy.

If you decide to stay at the campsite at Ypres make sure you book in advance as it's very popular. We turned up one year without booking and it was full. The following year we booked and saw many who hadn't sadly turned away. Last Post at Menin Gate is very moving.

Hi Di Phil,
Thanks for the heads up regarding Germany, given that we wanted to spend a few days in Belguim, Ypres- Brussels,
Was perusing the notion of just going to the west of Germany..... Cologne seems within a decent drive .... any ideas/thoughts ?
TIA
