Hello all. I am planning to drive to Frieburg Germany in August from Calais. Anyone knows any scenic routes? And maybe good B&B places? I have 6 year old and 10 year old so camping in unknown is a no no for me.

I think it depends on how much time you have - scenic routes in my experience always end up taking twice as long as you think they will!

The northern part of France isn't particularly scenic (only in my opinion, of course) but Reims is worth a visit. Strasbourg is also very nice but obviously a big/busy city. If you've got plenty of time it might be worth going a little further east into the Ardennes forest, it's very pretty round there. You could also pop into Luxembourg for the cheapest diesel in western Europe!

Not lot of time. Plan is to to get to Frieburg next day as it is our final destination. Thinking of staying the night at Best Western Plus hotel in Metz France. And continue our journey next morning :)

Lol. Yeah. At least I have been to Frieburg Germany few times so I know it is closer to Basel so I have the directional antenna on me now so hopefully I won't head towards the one you are referring in North. :)

The one I refer is not in the north, it's just above Mulhouse over the border. The only reason I refer to it is that a close friend fell foul of the law there 18 months ago.

We did the route to Freiburg last year from Zeebrugge, so you will probably be approaching from Metz, then Strasbourg and dips into the Vosges region.

Four weeks today we'll be on that route heading for Eguisheim (Alsace) for our stop over.

If you head east from Calais into Belgium and head down that route towards Luxembourg its pretty much toll free.
Then dip back down into France below Luxembourg and head down to Strasbourg and cross border there.

We normally stopover near Lux border

If you have been to Freiburg before I assume you are aware of Europa Parc at Rust?
