Hi, first time on here and I'm not sure if I'm posting in the right place. Myself, hubby and 6 year old are flying to Girona 21 Aug, taking our tent and renting a car. We have narrowed down to four sites and I wonder if anyone had any feedback. They are as follows, Cala Gogo, El Delfin Verde, Camping Tucan and Eurocamping. I know they will all be busy and have various pitches (this is our first time camping overseas) Any words of wisdom? Many thanks in advance.

Thank you, we're being a bit picky with facilities for our little one, proximity to a beach and pitch type. Wondering if we can book a luxe pitch ie beside the campers where it might not be so crowded/noisy. Never had a problem booking a hotel/apartment before but this is a whole new ball game....

We have stayed at el delfin verde a few years ago. The site is excellent for the beach, with a beach gate, with gateman, directly onto the beach. There are pitches amongst the trees for shade and other pitches in the open. There is an excellent supermarket on site, with very reasonable prices. The bar and restaurant are pretty good also. We have never stayed during high season, so cannot say how noisy or busy it gets.

Can recommend Camping Aquarius in San Pere Pescador. RIght by a large uncrowded safe beach, has a small childrens' water play area, nice restaurant and good supermarket. It is quite a shock when coming from camping in France, with large spread out pitches, and arriving to the regimented squashed in pitches in many Spanish campgrounds. Do not worry about it, it will be fine.

Cala GoGo is a steep site so the pitches are on terraces, it will also be very busy the dates you are going. Have a look further down the coast at Santa Susanna camping Bon Repos beach site swimming pool have a look via google earth.

Kims Camping in LLafranc.Reasonable size pitches, pool, bar, shop, resturant. Lovely walk round the coast to Callella Palafrugell. The only drawback is its a nice walk from site to a lovely beach but steep uphill climb back.
Another site across the road, La Siesta , a lot bigger we have not stayed there but more activities going on there.

We have been going there for years.

My husband and I stayed at Cala Gogo with Eurocamp. It is a steep site on terraces, being at the top of the site meant we had good views though. There is a little tractor train runs to and fro the beach from the shop area which is about half way up the site. The beach itself is fine but it shelves steeply into the sea and I wouldn't consider it safe for young children. Getting back out of the sea was sometimes difficult with the waves pulling you back in, it took me off my feet once and each time I tried to get back up waves knocked me over again, my husband who tried to help was also knocked off his feet by the waves and a lifeguard had to rescue me. Scary situation. Lovely pool and restaurant on site.

Many thanks for all your replies, very helpful. We have finally settled on camping las Dunas in Sant Pere Pescador, it ticks all the boxes for us so here's hoping our first camping trip will be a success! As a complete newbie at this camping business can I ask the more seasoned members is a groundsheet required for a tent when camping on grass in Spain in august or is it not necessary? If so do you think it possible to purchase over there as we are flying in and taking our gear with us so trying to keep to a minimum what we have to actually take with us. Thanks again.

I assume you have a small nylon tent with inner tent? I wouldn't bother with a groundsheet.

As you have a nylon tent try to get a shaded pitch as it can be very hot at that time of year and nylon tents are not good in high temperatures.

You will be lucky to find any grass at that time of year. Most pitches will be sandy/dusty. Wait until you get there then if you need anything go to a big supermarket and get what you need. Sales will be on at that time too.
Have you booked yet? Spain could still be busy last week in Aug.
