For the past 2 yrs we have stopped off (overnight) at either Cherwell Valley or Beaconsfield services on our way to and from tunnel.
We were planning a different journey this yr but plans change! So, we will be leaving Cheshire the afternoon before departure and having to motor down. Our crossing is 07.20 so we need to be quite close to tunnel.
Does anyone have any recommendations of services to stop at?
We normally travel down from Lancashire the day before and stay at Black Horse Farm caravan and motorhome club site. You can leave at any time in the morning and it's only a 15 minute drive to the chunnel.
higailbonney, we always stop off at eureka leisure park just off jcn9 on the m20, loads of eateries, cinema garden ctr, and premier inn and Travelodge if you wanted an overnight stay in budget bb,from here approx. 15mins to the Eurotunnel terminal, loads of parking on the complex if you want to park up for the night,
ben, let's assume the OP is staying in their caravan as they have done when previously stopped at motorway services, do you really think that they would be allowed to park up at Eureka Leisure Park?
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
Thanks for all the recommendations. Our problem is that we can't leave Cheshire until around 3pm (oh has to work that day) We want to get as far south as we can having but knowing the M6, have a few potential stops earmarked.
Its a bit of a pain but plans (out of my control) change so just have to deal with it!
I know it's not what you asked for, but having got all that way down, I'd cross on the next train and park up in France, where there is less restriction. Saves you the stress of getting up and away too.
Our booking is not until next morning and when we go (last 2 weeks Aug) its usually rammed so no chance of getting earlier train. Plus oh has to do days work before leaving and we're at least 260 miles away from tunnel
Yes, but surely the night time trains aren't rammed? It takes us 6 hours to get to the Tunnel, with stops. The crossing is about 1 hour min including checks etc. There's no need to go far in France before you stop, and their services don't charge either.
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
I can't expect my oh to work an eight/nine hour day then drive for at least 6 hours before getting to France. We we have already booked our crossing and last time we tried to amend it, they wanted to charge us an extra £200.
We normally travel down from Birmingham the day before and stay at Black Horse Farm caravan and motorhome club site. You can leave at any time in the morning and it's only a 15 minute drive to the chunnel. If you are going to arrive late, you pay for your pitch before you go and they will leave an envelope with your pitch number.
------------- I have forgotten more than I now know
Thanks everyone for your advice. I think we will have to stop off at Clacket Lane services (if we can make it that far) OH will be tired and I won't tow in UK so can't help him.
I'm happy to tow in France as its so much easier... may even attempt towing off train this yr
