I have a question regarding parking in Sarlat. I note that some free car parks forbid parking between 7pm and 9am. Is this rigorously policed? Will be get a ticket or clamped if we stay until 9 or 10pm for example?
TIA
Jeff

Probably strictly enforced. It is the only place where I have ever received a parking ticket.
Parked, walked to the ticket machine and the ticket was there when I got back to th car -- no sign of who put it there!
Cost me 8 euros!

Parking is possible but difficult, due to it being very popular. Overnight I would certainly expect a ticket, got to deter camping cars somehow otherwise Sarlat would be a town of travelling pensioners.

I think you are misreading the info. Parking is payable in many car parks, except between 7pm and 9 am, when it is free. How would all the restaurants survive if no one can park in town in the evening? And there are loads of eateries in Sarlat!
We used the free car park opposite the Lidl a lot during the day, and didn't notice any restrictions in May.
There's a sign on this particular car park (Place de la Liberation) that says 'Stationnment Interdit 17H a 9H' and there are no pay stations. I have noticed this sign on other free car parks too. Am I getting it wrong?

You could try emailing the Office of Tourisme, in Sarlat and ask them, just the sort of enquiry they should help you with. I use google translate to compose my emails and invariably get very helpful replies.

There are many car parks in Sarlat and we have always parked quite easily even on market days. We were there this morning.
Some car parks do not allow evening parking and I wouldn't use these outside the outs stated. You will get a ticket. There are other car parks open later so I would use one of them
It does require a bit of persistence and going around the circuit a few times, but we often park in the Grande Rigaudie or one the various roadside parks on the Bvd. Voltaire, Nessman and Arlet.

Hi Checkley,
Which car parks have you used in the evening?
Jeff
Hi Jeff
We usually park on one of the car parks on the d704 there are a few. There's one on the town side of the main road which has a path down to the high st. It's called place sunhouse on google maps. It's just after the camping car aire but on the other side of the road.
Regards
Pete
